Kristin Cantor (Spoilers, although I dont know why someone who has not read it would view the post if it looks like its revealing the story) Why was Jenna 13 when she died at 4?

Renee Thought she died at 3

Kristin Cantor Well either way, she wasnt yet 13.

Renee I thought in the end the book had said it had been 10 years. #nottryintoargue thrilled someone is discussing this book as I just finished it yesterday

Kristin Cantor Yes but she passed away ten years earlier sonshe should have been a little girl

Nikki Resele I wondered that too. My conclusive thoughts on this were that it was Picoult's take on what happens to those souls who die but don't know it. They live on, and thus she grew up. She saw what she wanted to see, it became her reality even though it was not "real". The story takes place over a span of 10 years, from her death until she realizes she had died as a child. Alice sees her at the end as 13 years of age, as Jenna sees herself.
I absolutely loved this book! I loved Alice's research and her life, I love how the characters were woven together, and how it all closed in the end. I felt like it was a calming tranquil book (mostly learning about the elephants and the beautiful images of the African landscape), and the peace and closure that all characters received in the end.
