Carrie (Care) (care76) I started The Hunger Games last night. I'm almost halfway through and it's really keeping me hooked so far.

I used to be the same way. One day my mom picked out a book for me that I never would have. The whole series has terrible covers. I'm glad she did because this was over 12 years ago and it's still my favorite series! Now I try to go on reviews and recommendations. Oh and the Hunger Games was really good and the second book is supposed to be even better (or so I've heard from friends that have ARC).

I'm exactly the same. I love art and am quite interested in photography so I normally only pick books with good covers. I'm also kinda prejudiced against the Hunger Games cos a girl who I can't stand in my class read them and I know its awful but I don't want to like them cos she does and I know how petty it sounds but you haven't met her.

You're not stupid and you don't sound it. :) The Hunger Games is by Suzanne Collins. The Hunger Games (Hunger Games, #1) by Suzanne Collins I wouldn't really call it fantasy though, maybe scifi (but not really that either), but it's a great read. The second book Catching Fire is coming out Sept. 1.

I started reading (or actually listening to the audiobook)the Mistborn series Mistborn The Final Empire (Mistborn, #1) by Brandon Sanderson I meant to read it for quite a while and finally got around to it. It's on the epic fantasy level, very good so far. It does take a bit to get into the story though, but well worth the time.

I also started the Vampire Diaries. I wasn't going to because I wanted to watch the show and I knew I'd pick it apart if I read them. Oh well.

Thank you Carrie!I couldn't find it, Thanks!I HAVE BEEN WANTING TO READ MISTBORN:The Final Empire FOR A REALLY LONG TIME!Lol

message 13: by madison (new)

madison (HBmadison) | 131 comments Um, can anyone recommend a good book longer then 700 pages? I need one for school(well it'd be easier for school) and all books I look at aren't long enough.

message 14: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) I will have a look for you. I have some really long books, but most are in a series. Like the one I am reading now is 763, but it book 2 of the Mistborn series.

message 15: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) One I have that is not part of a series is The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova . I haven't read it yet, but it was recommended to me by a friend. He said it was a great book. There are tons of editions out there, so look at the page numbers as some are 600 and something pages. There was a new edition printed this year and it was over 700 pages I think. Mine is very old so you could probably find it in a used bookstore.

message 16: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) Oh another awesome book that is over 700 pages is [image error] . You have to get this edition since I think the book was broken down into different books later. I loved this book.

Karla (bookarita) | 39 comments Just finished Snow Flower and the secret fan not a fantasy book but well done without being all wordy was a quick read. I did start Eyes like stars by Lisa Mantchev its a YA fantasy great for theater fans. Its a little early to tell anyone what I think of it yet I'll just keep reading and find out :P

message 20: by Mackenzie (new)

Mackenzie RM (mackenzierm) I just finished a book that is by no means fantasy, it was called Becoming Me by Melody Carlson. I really enjoyed it. I just started Plum Lovin' by Janet Evanovich, which also isn't fantasy, lol.

Loved that book so much I had to read it 3 times!

Anyway, I'm in the middle of "One False Move" By: Alex Kava. It's too bad I haven't been able to get as far as I'd like, things have been crazy busy around my town latley.

Karla (bookarita) | 39 comments Me too Jo! I want your book advise! Do tell

message 24: by Mazmum (new)

Mazmum | 18 comments I'm reading the last part of Nightworld, Witchlight. I have enjoyed the last three more than the first six.

message 25: by Mazmum (new)

Mazmum | 18 comments Depends what you like. The first six are basically love stories from a supernatural angle where as I would say the latter ones have a bit more story to them. They are all bitesize novels so easy to pick up and read. If you like romantic chick lit give them a whirl, i'd say they are chicklit with fantasy instead of humour.

Jessica~CoinOperatedJoy I am currently reading The HOllows, The Woman in White and Dracula. Just finished Eyes Like Stars...don't really recommend it though. Katie: The Vampire Academy series is my favorite vampire series! Enjoy! The next book comes out in the spring and I can't wait!

message 27: by Mackenzie (new)

Mackenzie RM (mackenzierm) lol the morganville series is amazing!♥ i haven't read vampire academy series yet, but i hope to!:)

Jessica~CoinOperatedJoy Hmm...I have never read the morganville series but now I am really interested! I will have to search them out this weekend.

i have to find a copy of the first book though.. and finish all the books that i MUST read before they're due back at the library!

message 30: by Mackenzie (new)

Mackenzie RM (mackenzierm) lol, i envy you. libraries shouldn't have due dates ;] it would make my life so much easier. :P

message 31: by Mackenzie (new)

Mackenzie RM (mackenzierm) oh, that's too bad! ): lol, i could never swap books, ever. the ones i have mean too much to me to swap lol.

message 32: by Mackenzie (new)

Mackenzie RM (mackenzierm) that's true. well, most of the time i borrow books from one of my friends, or now the library - so i rarely end up spending much money on books.

message 33: by Mackenzie (new)

Mackenzie RM (mackenzierm) ): that's not good lol

message 34: by Mackenzie (new)

Mackenzie RM (mackenzierm) haha, yeah. well at least reading is a good pastime! so, its not soo much of a waste. still, books tend to be expensive unfortunately.

Karla (bookarita) | 39 comments Eyes like stars was a mess great idea gone wrong. Had paid full price too which I rarely do read all these five star reviews were they paid to say nice stuff or what? I usually love almost every book I read!

awh, that totally sucks! i don't like reading all these great reviews for a book and then getting it and finding out that it's just bad. but everyone has their own interests and opinions of a book.

message 40: by Karla (new)

Karla (bookarita) | 39 comments So true! Ill get over it after I get it out of my house :)

message 46: by Mackenzie (new)

Mackenzie RM (mackenzierm) I'm reading The Deep End of Fear, am about 100 pages in! It's getting really good!!

message 47: by Mazmum (new)

Mazmum | 18 comments I'm reading Dead Until Dark. Finding the long chapters hard as I mainly read at night and always seem to be finishing halfway through a chapter.

message 48: by Kasey (new)

Kasey The last three posts are all good books. I think I will limit my opinions to those since I spend far to much time reading and have read several of the books posted and have lots of the others already in my reader waiting to be read. I love the Sookie series so anything there I like. Blue Moon and Intertwined are also really good. They both add a little something new from the typical books in the genre I think.

I'm currently reading Bound to Shadows (Riley Jenson Guardian, #8) by Keri Arthur

message 49: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) I finally have my copy of The Gathering Storm! I have been waiting 4 years for this fraking book. I will start it later today!!!

message 50: by Dija (new)

Dija I'm reading North of Beautiful. Pretty good book so far. There's something just so sweet about it. <3

@Jo: What do you think of it so far? Which guy do you like better, for Elena and otherwise?
