Is it ok if I link to this group in the "Pie" mini challenge in the reading challenge group Renee?

Since I joined the Reading Challenge group, I have become addicted to lists. This group sounds like my kind of group, especially since I started the Pie challenge.

My goal is to read 80% of the books on the list. There are some books that I know I will never read--anything gory or too violent(the likes of Silence of the lambs, etc). Other than that, I will read just about anything.

Has anyone sussed out how many books on the list they have already read? I am sure my total is quite low, a little afraid to see.

I have read somewhere around 20, most from the love section.

My plan is to go through all sections when Jenny has kindly finished listing. Mark those I have read, most are very many years ago. Then to read books I either have downloaded or are free. I spent 30 years mostly not reading until this year, Easing myself back in with shortish, free, owned or just have to read books. Looking forward to the fun, hoping to get over 50% read in the next few years.

I just counted the number of books that I have read from the list and taken a look at some of the titles, and have revised my numbers: over the course of 40 years reading I have read 297 of them-so I am aiming for 501, and then we'll see.

Much to my surprise, I have read 37.

Jenny, I am impressed at how fast you are posting all the book titles. Are you finding books to add to your to- read pile? That would definitely happen to me!

That's a good plan, Wend. I've been going through the list as Jenny posts the titles and get a bit overwhelmed sometimes at the number of them that I'd like to read so some sort of plan is required!

How quickly does everyone here read a book. I take about two weeks usually and I also listen to an audio book which takes about the same time. I consider myself to be quite a slow reader.

It actually does not take that long either, if you bring up the list here on GR and add fr9m there. I lean a littke much towards romance I think LOL... 18 books I have read or own from that, vs like 6 to 10 in the rest

OK, I now have the official list, so I will go back and correct in a few days.

Is this group fairly new? It appears to be. That's good because I haven't missed much, then : ) I'm a middle school language arts teacher and former English/Comp Lit major. I have always loved reading, but sometimes due to demands of work and school have not read enough, or not read enough books of my choice. Glad to be in the group and excited about reading Mme. Bovary. I just picked up a copy at a thrift store a couple of weeks ago!

Hi, Sharon. I was a middle school substitute teacher so I know how much work the language arts teachers have; there is little time to read for pleasure. Mme Bovary is the first group read, so you are in at the beginning.

Just had an add up and I've read 80 so far, 81 as soon as I finish Madame Bovary. Most are from the Crime section. my least is The State Of The Nation section so maybe I'll pick one from there for my tbr pile.

My least are from the crime section, my highest from Love and Self.

My higest is love, lowest is War and Travel.

Most of the books that I have already read are from the Crime section and the Sci Fi section. I have only read 1 or 2 books out of each of the other sections.

It sounds like we have a real variety of readers.

I've read 224, mostly from the Crime section and Sci-fi. Really have to work on the Family and Self, I've only read 15 from there.

I finished The Bell Jar early and I am really looking forward to our January discussion. There is a lot to talk about. After a slow beginning I began to really appreciate this remarkable book.

Would anyone like personal "Reading Rooms" to keep track of what they have read?

I ordered several books from the library interlibrary loan and was happily surprised to see they are on the 1000 list.

That is always a good thing.

Jenny, I would like a personal reading room as well, since I read another book from the list- Little Women for the first time.

I love the new re read feature on Goodreads! Now you can keep track of how many times you have read a book!

So i remembered on of Henning Mankell's books was on the list, but for some reason thought it was Firewall not Sidetracked. I really wish I had remembered correctly because Firewall is the worst Mankell book I have read.

Grr Goodreads is glitching again... It won't always save the finish date of a book. It will still count it to your challenge, so at least if you see it there and not near the top of your read list, you know. Gar that is annoying

Jenny, I noticed that too. Now I check each book and add the date it is missing. It doesn't happen with every book, just some.

I have a question regarding Charlotte Perkins Gilman. I am currently reading The Yellow Wall-Paper and Other Writings (I don't think this short story appears here, but I may be wrong) and I spotted Herland in the Science Fiction and Fantasy section. An abridged 1915 version of this piece is included in my copy of the book, so my question is inevitably: would reading this count as a tick on the list? Some advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks all.

I will concur with the other Mods, but I don't have a problem with an abridged version of Herland. It was cool to see CPG's concept of Utopia but it was not an exciting read.

I agree with Renee, it counts since it is a version of it.
