My mom bought Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Original Screenplay last week and finished it during her stay with me. She left it behind so I could read it, so that'll be my book for January... if I can finish The Name of the Wind in December.

Let us know what you think of "Fantastic Beasts." Apparently I'm one of the six non-Harry Potter fans on the planet, but I'd give Rowling a chance on something else (even if it's in the same HP universe).

Here's a GR Listopia y'all might want to check out:

You can add books to the list if you wish!
Oh boy! I'd already forgotten about Fantastic Beasts :-P
That one should be quick though!
I'll definitely still be reading The Name of the Wind in January since I aim to finish TGWATG, Red Queen and The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating this month.
Hopefully I'll also be reading The Woman in Cabin 10 in January (though I may get it before the end of December and I MUST finish it within 2 weeks of getting it because at that time, it will move to the next person on the incredibly long wait list!)

I just added Dragon Teeth by Michael Crichton to this list. It comes out 4 days before my birthday and I am SUPER excited (even though his other books that have been published posthumously have not been stellar). Hubby has strict instructions to buy this one for me :-)

Thanks for the heads-up on the Crichton novel. His posthumous books are still better than some of the junk that gets published!
I thought Pirate Latitudes (which I think was the first one published after Crichton's death?) was pretty good, though different from his usual tech/sci-fi stories.
Micro (about 2/3 of which was written by Richard Preston) and Next were so-so, but possibly worth reading if you're a Crichton fan.

You can read an excerpt from the yet-unpbublished novel at:

I honestly haven't given much thought to what I'll be reading in January. I just bought seven new books, and I'll probably get some for Christmas. I think I might read America's First Daughter, Underground in Berlin, or Velva Jean Learns to Drive. We'll see!

I do believe Pirate Latitudes was the first book published posthumously, and I need to reread it. I read it when it first came out but can't really remember anything about it now.
I'm pretty sure I've read every book of his that has been published in the last 15 years or so, pretty much right after each one came out.
It's been awhile (6 years!) since I've read Next but I recall liking it. That one was actually published before he passed. I should read it again as well since I've only read it once.
Micro I recall not liking very much. I think it was definitely more heavily influenced by Preston... since he's still alive and all.
And... I read the excerpt from Dragon Teeth awhile ago :-P
Thanks though!

Thanks for the info, StarMan! I just bought a bunch of books from my TBR list plus a couple collector's edition classics for a bargain! Can't wait for the books to arrive so I can start reading! :-)

Those sound like great choices, Allison! I haven't actually started All the Light We Cannot See yet but plan on starting this week. I'm currently reading Quiet (the book about Introverts) and will probably add another book next week (still trying to decide which one).

Love Connection by Camilla Isley
If I Stay by Gayle Forman
Reluctant Housemates by Linda Barrett
Taming a Laird's Wild Lady by Tammy Andresen
What I am currently reading (I usually have books in different places so I have a few going at the same time):
The Daughter He Never Knew by Linda Barrett (author I really like - 4th in the series)
Where She Went by Gayle Forman (2014 TBR book)
Conviction (Kelly Loy Gilbert - read in school while students read)
Power Play (Danielle Steel - double title challenge)
The Honor Was Mine (Elizabeth Heaney - a GR giveaway win)
So it is a busy reading month. Hoping to get a couple of snow days this month to sit with a cup of hot tea or coffee and read. :-)

Sounds wonderful! Glad you're enjoying these titles and having such a productive reading year so far.

I haven’t gotten very far in the book, but yes, enjoying it so far. I’m trying to take my time with it though (as I do with most non-fiction books) so I can really grasp the concepts and see how/if applicable they are.
In terms of what else I’m reading for January, I just added [book:The Painted Veil|99664] by W. Somerset Maugham (a BOTM for another book club I joined focusing on the classics). I also signed up for a challenge (26 books from authors with last names starting with each letter of the alphabet), which I should probably get started on soon if I want to finish by the end of the year. It will be a “busy” reading year for me, but absolutely looking forward to it!

Thanks, Julia :)
I've already read

and I have a copy of

and I'm adding 2 of the others to my wishlist.

Double Play (Catherine Coulter - 2nd book in the double title challenge)
Outrage (Kindle Goodreads Giveaway win)
The King of Average (Gary Schwartz - middle school fantasy)
Hope everyone is enjoying their January reads. Hard to believe we only have six more days in the month. Yikes! Time is flying by.
