Stephie Williams (stephiegurl) | 90 comments Here's the link for my blog: www.aquestionersjourney.wordpress.com

My blog is about exploring ideas from a philosophic perspective. Exploration is what I think philosophy is all about, and it all starts with asking a question.

The following are the blogs that I have posted so far:

1. "A Questioner's Journey: My First Blog" It is about the importance of asking questions. One of my personal mottoes is - "The only good answer is one that leads to a new question."

2. "Is Life a Puzzle?" The nature of this blog is to explore the metaphor - life is a puzzle. It also addresses using metaphors as a tool to exploring ideas.

3. "Does Baxter Compute?" It starts off with a cute picture of Baxter, my cat, lying on top of my open laptop. It is about whether or not animals think. Along the way it discusses various aspects of the philosophy of mind.

4. "Why Are People Afraid of Their Brain?" This blog post is much longer, over 2500 words, than my previous three. It is my first stab at describing freewill as an emotion, and how that affects people's view of their brain.

I am currently working on a blog about the existence of Santa Claus. In it I provide three arguments for his existence based on three traditional logical proofs of god's existence (intended to be a parody of these), and fantasize about how Santa gets things done. I hope to post it by Christmas Eve.

If you want to challenge your thinking please check out my blogs. Any comments are appreciated, and I will try to make a response.

Stephie Williams (stephiegurl) | 90 comments Hi there, David.

Thank you for taking the time to read my blogs. I hope that you enjoy them and find them fruitful for thinking. I would appreciate all thoughtful comments you would care to make.

I quickly perused you blogs on the first page of your website. I made a brief comment on old age. One thing that struct me was your ability to take art or literature and find a mine worth of philosophical insight. That just isn't my style, or do I think I have the ability; fiction is just not high up on my radar most of the time.

Stephie Williams (stephiegurl) | 90 comments My newest blog posted yesterday is: "Is Life a Financial Transaction?" at https://aquestionersjourney.wordpress...

This is a personal blog exploring the financial metaphors that are involved in my life. My attraction to metapbors for exploring life is opposed to my lack of poetic metaphor, which for the most part I find hard to understand.

Stephie Williams (stephiegurl) | 90 comments I just posted my latest blog - "Do You Want to Pick Some Cherries?"

It explores what is called cherry picking. It is taking a short bit of a text, usually without context. With the Bible it is quoting a verse or two.

Stephie Williams (stephiegurl) | 90 comments This is my second blog posting for March - "What Would Baxter Do?"

It is my response to the question - what would Jesus do?

Stephie Williams (stephiegurl) | 90 comments I have a new blog out – "Why Do I Cook and Bake?"

With "I" in the title you could guess that it is another more personal blog, and you would be right. Admittedly, there are a few bits of philosophy in it, but they are mostly of the personal variety.

This is an exploration of the components and benefits of the concept of human flourishing, focusing mainly on the what are eight categories of personal wellness with a little bit of ethics thrown in at the end.

“Can God Be Moral?”

I look at the possibility of whether or not god can be moral, looking at the various concepts and definitions of god, from the theistic to the nontheistic to the polytheistic.

Stephie Williams (stephiegurl) | 90 comments Here are two more blog postings:

Stephie Williams (stephiegurl) | 90 comments Here is my most recent blog post: “Is Baxter a People Too?”

It is about how much of personhood (a term usually restricted to human beings) do animals have, using my cat Baxter as a prime example. It also addresses the ethical treatment of animals, since the concept of personhood is often used by philosophers and ethicists as to what we owe are fellow human beings in moral terms.

Stephie Williams (stephiegurl) | 90 comments Here is my most recent blog post: “When Is an Answer Good?”

Stephie Williams (stephiegurl) | 90 comments Here is my most recent blog post: “How Do Skeptics Make Their Way in the World?”

This posting is about skepticism as a radical stance to the world (hence, the title), a method of investigation, and its modern form of not accepting something without evidence and valid reasons.

Stephie Williams (stephiegurl) | 90 comments Here is my most recent blog post: “Can Spirituality Be Defined?”

Okay this is an odd one for an atheist to write. In this post I look at two definitions I have given spirituality. One I made back in the 1990s, and the other I made just recently. See what they are, and which, if any, wins out.

Stephie Williams (stephiegurl) | 90 comments Here is my most recent blog post: “What Can Christmas Mean to an Atheist?”

This is my second annual Christmas post. The first on was “Does Santa Claus Exist?” @ https://aquestionersjourney.wordpress.... This one explores how an atheist (me) celebrates Christmas, and manages to extract meaning from a religiously meaningless holiday from my point of view.

Stephie Williams (stephiegurl) | 90 comments Here is my most recent blog post: “Could I Use a Little Reducing?”

In this post I look at philosophical reductionism. The basic concept involved is that what is less fundamental can be explained by what is more fundamental or from the more complex to the less complex. Specifically in this post I will look at whether or not the mind can be reduced to particles and forces.

Stephie Williams (stephiegurl) | 90 comments Here is my most recent blog post: “Can Spirituality Be Defined?”

In this post I offer two definitions of spirituality that I had made. One I made back in the early 1990s, and the other is of a much newer vintage. They do not necessarily contradict one another, so could actually be combined, neither one of which I can wholly abide with now.

Stephie Williams (stephiegurl) | 90 comments I have three new posts that I have posted since I last posted here.

2. “How Did I Get Here From There?” @ https://aquestionersjourney.wordpress.... It is about my journey from an atheist (mainly by default) to a fundamentalist Christian and back to an atheist again, but with a lot more understanding of my beliefs.

3. “Can Mean People Be Happy? @ https://aquestionersjourney.wordpress.... In this post I look at whether or not mean people are capable of living a happy life.

message 28: by Stephie (new)

Stephie Williams (stephiegurl) | 90 comments Here two more recent posts.

Stephie Williams (stephiegurl) | 90 comments Here is my most recent blog post:

Stephie Williams (stephiegurl) | 90 comments So you can catch up with my most recent blogs I will give a brief description of each.

1. “Is There More Weirdness About?” I talk about some of things in biology that I find weird or strange. It is in the same spirit as the post I did on quantum weirdness.

2. “Are Religion and Science Compatible?” This attempts to answer this question by exploring four comparisons: epistemology, god of the gaps arguments, failure of a proof of god, and morality. Before these attempts I try to explain the fundamentalists’ view and the liberals’ views.

3. “Do We Have Minds?” This post is somewhat of a shocker. In it I cover various theories of philosophy, mainly of the materialists’ view. Before this I cover monism and dualism. My maim focus is on eliminative materialism, which reveals my hypothetical answer.
