Joi (missjoious) | 3970 comments If you like books, puzzles, games, libraries, books about books, convincing people to read more, and adventure-this is for you! This happened to be recommended to me by my boyfriends mom, who works in an elementary school. I asked my 9 year old niece on the other side of the family if she had read it, and she had in school-and loved it. This book can cross generations with it's references and it's underlying theme if loving to read.

This is a middle-grade novel based around Kyle, who wins an exclusive chance to preview the Willy Wonka-esque Mr. Lemoncello's library. They end up getting locked in, and have to "escape" by finding clues, solving puzzles, and being creative. All in reference to books, authors, libraries and reading. This will help teach the characters, and the kids along with it about books, reading, the Dewey decimal system as well. It also encourages fairness, loyalty, and teambuilding.

Obviously this is intended for a younger audience- and you can tell with the character's simplicity and the plot's ease. However this is easy to look over with how FUN the book is. You can play along with the word puzzles- my family calls them "wuzzles". There are so many literary references, it's obvious Grabenstein put in little details both for the kids as well as for the adults reading along. We get references to anything between A Wrinkle in Time, Nine Stories and No, David!, then back to Agatha Christie and Dr Seuss.

Bonus puzzle at the authors note as well- had me going back through the book to "solve" the clue!
