Kay | 36 comments Hi everyone, welcome to my thread!

I'm fairly new to Goodreads and I have to say that the incredibly friendly and supportive community here has blown me away! You guys are all so awesome.

I released my first novel at the end of October with little to no idea what to do next in terms of getting it out there and my sister suggested this site. It turned out I somehow signed up three years ago and just forgot about it so the 2013 joined date in my profile is a little misleading!

Instead of finding a marketing platform I was amazed to discover a whole bunch of people that are like me- that love reading, are passionate about writing and that strive to help each other.

I also love reading, playing or watching anything fantasy related, snuggling my cat and drinking tea!

I'm currently running an event on my website called Indie Advent Calendar which is daily posts from 1st - 24th of December featuring different indie authors to give people some inspiration for gifts and encourage them to try something new. There are some authors from here included too :)

This event is finished but you can still see all the great books involved on the page.

Indie Advent Calendar

My book is a fantasy novel called Heirs of Power, about a group of people that are entrusted with different abilities by ancient spirits so they can protect their world from an invasion by a race that feeds on life energy.

Heirs of Power (The Constellation Saga Book 1) by Kay MacLeod

Oh, and it's free on Kindle from 16/12 - 18/12!
Heirs of Power

Come hang out with me on Facebook or Twitter too.

Thanks guys, take care :D

Jane Jago | 1015 comments I do write fantasy as well as other stuff, but. I hate tea and my familiar is a blinking great shaggy dog called Dog. Can I be in your gang still?

I'm fairly certain they are the three greatest things ever invented! And thank you!

Jane, I'll try hard to overlook your hatred of tea but all animals are welcome here (except spiders) I just have this guy telling me every day that cats are superior and how can you disagree with that face?

message 20: by Kay (new) - added it

Kay | 36 comments Hey Anna, good to see you too! Cats are the best, mine is the friendliest lap-cat I've ever had- he likes to 'help' whenever I'm writing :D

Thanks for the catch Christina! I do 90% of my shopping on that site so just default to there... Did you guess I was English by the tea addiction? (And yes I'm drinking one now!)

As usual, C.B. your fan art was awesome! Thank you so much for it, it is why anyone becomes an author, after all ;)

Welcome Nathan! I'm glad you're enjoying the Calendar, and thank you for taking part in it too :)

message 21: by Anna (last edited Dec 17, 2016 01:42AM) (new)

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 71 comments Drinking tea? So am I!

I couldn't concentrate on writing as puss cat liked to sit on my lap and pound away, purring, then turning in circles, then... how could I possibly concentrate? After I'd put her on the floor, I'd feel so guilty and wonder if she was cold and go and get her bed and bring it near to the radiator - write? Huh! But I miss her terribly. I'll shut up now.

message 22: by Kay (new) - added it

Kay | 36 comments No, talk cat as much as you want! I'm sorry, you must miss her so much- I lost my girl earlier this year and I still half-expect her to run up to the door and shout at me for not opening it quickly enough.

My boy, Kai is quite well behaved when I'm writing, as long as I acknowledge that he owns the entirety of my left arm to sleep on and I type with just my right hand ;)

message 23: by Anna (new)

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 71 comments Shriek! That would mean my book output would fall by half or more. How gorgeous though.

Mine was an indoor cat, she hated going outside, absolutely hated it. She had nothing of the tiger in her.

I lost my kitty (put him to sleep) on Black Friday and I'm still feeling terrible about it. I still have one kitty, so she's keeping me pet contented for now.

Kay | 36 comments Anna, my Kai is an indoor cat too, he's a bit wimpy and I'm a bit worried about traffic, my girl only went out because we took her in and she was already so used to it.

Hi Riley! There will be as much tea as you can drink here ;)

Nat, I'm really sorry to hear about your kitty, it's a terrible thing to lose one. I've only got one now and we are considering getting a kitten to keep him company while we are out during the day so we'll probably be a two cat house again soon. My mum and sister are way ahead of me though- they live together and have seven between them! And thank you! Kai is very snozzleable!

Thanks Marie *blushes* I'm not the greatest with website stuff so I'm so happy you like it! You've all been amazing with filling it with your fantastic books so thank you so much!

Thank you. It's always hard. I am not ready for another kitty. Luckily my kitty isn't alone too often. They are joyful and frustrating. :)

And that is lovely Elf Art! Wonederful work.

Kay | 36 comments My husband and I both work pretty long hours so we feel a bit guilty leaving Kai on his own all day, I think he'd appreciate having a playmate.
They are brilliant, and somehow the naughtier they are the cuter it makes them seem...

And thank you!
I don't do much arty stuff nowadays- I used to draw a lot when I was younger but I'm mainly into words now.
The last thing I did was when my friend got engaged, I babysit her snake when she goes on holiday so I had to do this for her-

 photo ring bearer_zpsrc0hapqj.png

It's her snake, Zeus, as the ring bearer- if it doesn't happen at the wedding (including the bow tie) I'll be disappointed.

Ember-Raine Winters (ember-raine_winters) | 494 comments Awe! He's totally cute! Good job Kay! I have zero artistic talent so I love to see what others can do!

message 42: by Kay (new) - added it

Kay | 36 comments He's much cuter in real life! The sweetest snake I ever met :D I wouldn't say I have much artist talent (I have a thing against doing backgrounds) but I enjoy it. I really need to get around to doing a proper map for my books that isn't just a hastily doodled squiggle in Paint that helps me plan travel times...

message 43: by Ember-Raine (new)

Ember-Raine Winters (ember-raine_winters) | 494 comments I wouldn't say that! I saw the pic you made of CB and that was good too! Even my stick figures look like Quasimodo lol!
