Jacqueline (Fall In Love With The Sound of Words) (jackey_oh) Hello, to make it easier for me to know who has completed challenges, and therefore gets entered into the drawing, I would like everyone who finishes a challenge to post in each consecutive month: the book you read, how it fits the challenge, why you chose to read it, and a small teaser review or just your thoughts on the book.

List the months in your first post and then come back and edit as you complete challenges.

Your challenge completeion should look something like this

Jackie's Challenge List

January:
The Book:
Why I chose it:
My Thoughts/Review:

February:
The Book:
Why I chose it:
My Thoughts/Review:

etc.,

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Remember that although the month is a guideline, you don't have to read it in that month. However, please do use the guideline month so that we can use it to reference which challenge that is! Thank you!

MY PLAN AND CHALLENGE LIST IS...

January:
The Book: The Yellow Wallpaper and Other Stories by Charlotte Perkins Gilman
Why I chose it: I will only be reading 'The Yellow Wallpaper' in my edition. I loved Herland by the same author when I read it in 2016.
My Thoughts/Review: 5 stars. See review on book.

February:
The Book: Pull by Anne Riley
Why I chose it: Felt like it :)
My Thoughts/Review:

March:
The Book: The Fever Tree by Jennifer McVeigh
Why I chose it: One of the books on my TBR.
My Thoughts/Review:

April:
The Book: A Darker Shade of Magic by V. E. Schwab
Why I chose it: Keep meaning to read a book by her and haven't done so yet even though I own two.
My Thoughts/Review:

May:
The Book: The Muse by Jessie Burton
Why I chose it: It's gorgeous and sounds really good.
My Thoughts/Review:

June:
The Book: Rolling Blackouts by Sarah Glidden
**I changed this book**
My Thoughts/Review:

July:
The Book: The Icarus Show by Sally Christie
My Thoughts/Review:

August:
The Book: The Mysterious Howling by Maryrose Wood
Why I chose it: My primary school teacher recommended it to me, so I wanted to go back and revisit for the first time in 6 or 7 years.
My Thoughts/Review:

September:
The Book: I Am Malala by Malala Yousafzai
My Thoughts/Review:

October:
The Book: Jessica Haggerthwaite: Witch Dispatcher
Why I chose it: I really liked the other book I've read by the author and it's short, so why not!
My Thoughts/Review:

November:
The Book:Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
Why I chose it: I've been wanting to read it forever.
My Thoughts/Review:

December:
The Book: Persuasion by Jane Austen
Why I chose it: I've been meaning to read a Jane Austen book forever, but I really hated the first line of Pride and Prejudice when I first read it (I was about 10 and didn't appreciate it as a commentary, so I put it down) and so now the whole prospect has me rather intimidated.

message 4: by Luke (last edited Dec 27, 2016 12:18AM) (new)

Luke Taylor This is my challenge so far…almost all planned out! So exciting! This will be updated all year, obviously. :)

January: Read a book with a character that has a common mental health issue, learning disability/difference or social problem.
The Book: All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr
Why I chose it: I have it in hardcover and it is a Pulitzer Prize winning novel that has largely wonderful reviews.
My Thoughts/Review:

February: A book without the letter ‘e’ in the title.
The Book: Caraval by Stephanie Garber
Why I chose it: Because ever since I saw Julie Eshbaugh’s review what seems like ages ago I knew I had to read this book and later became friends with Stephanie Garber and could not wait to get a signed hardcover. And, well, as February is Valentine’s Day, I am ready to fall in love with a new book.
My Thoughts/Review:

March: A book set in a country you’ve never been to.
The Book: Elephant Company: The Inspiring Story of an Unlikely Hero and the Animals Who Helped Him Save Lives in World War II by Vicki Constantine Croke
Why I chose it: Set in Burma, it is a very interesting true story on an intriguing subject, and since it is a true account, it will give a great representation of Burma, which I have never been to. As Jackie got this book for Christmas (thank you, whoever gave it to her) we will be buddy-reading this one.
My Thoughts/Review:

April: A book with a man/boy on the cover.
The Book: Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson
Why I chose it: That cover! Well, by April I will have finished The Way of Kings by April and hopefully the third book in the series will be out by the time I’ve finished Words of Radiance so I won’t have to wait too long...
My Thoughts/Review:

May: A book set in the 20th Century not about WWII.
The Book: Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier or Jamaica Inn by Daphne du Maurier
Why I chose it: Because I used to have a copy and really must read it. I really like Du Maurier, and so, this should be a great time to get Gothic. I just hope I got the time period right.
My Thoughts/Review:

June: A book told not exclusively in prose.
The Book: Gemina by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
Why I chose it: For obvious reasons, especially since Illuminae was so excellent.
My Thoughts/Review:

July: The first book you see in a bookshop.
The Book: Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay
Why I chose it: I had seen good reviews and don't remember if it was recommended to me or not or if I'd marked it to read seeing it through a giveaway but I saw it on the shelf right away and knew it would be perfect for the challenge.
My Thoughts/Review:

August: A book recommended by a Librarian.
The Book: After You by Jojo Moyes
Why I chose it: This came HIGHLY recommended to me and as I was head over heels with the first book and the movie I can't wait.
My Thoughts/Review:

September: A memoir/biography.
The Book:
Why I chose it:
My Thoughts/Review:

October: A book less than 250 pages long.
The Book:
Why I chose it:
My Thoughts/Review:

November: A book recommended by someone in the club.
The Book:
Why I chose it:
My Thoughts/Review:

December: A book out of your comfort zone.
The Book: A Midwinter's Tail by Sofie Kelly
Why I chose it: So Jackie and I are teaming up on this one, too. It's a holiday cozy with magical cats and a murder in a small town. What could possibly go wrong? This is out of my comfort zone for sure but in a way that I find exciting and entertaining, as I would be loathe to read something along the lines of erotica or gore-filled horror, and so this is a very good experiment with stepping outside of my set tastebuds and the fact that Jackie and I are reading it together makes it much safer for the both of us.

Jacqueline (Fall In Love With The Sound of Words) (jackey_oh) January: Read a book with a character that has a common mental health issue, learning disability/difference or social problem.
The Book: Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock by Matthew Quick
Why I chose it: I adored Silver Lining Playbook, and this has been on the TBR for a while. No time like the present!
My Thoughts/Review:

February: A book without the letter ‘e’ in the title.
The Book: I will be reading either Gadsby by Ernest Vincent Wright or A Void by Gorges Perec
Why I chose it: I thought I would be clever and read something that doesn’t have ANY ‘e’s in it!
My Thoughts/Review:

March: A book set in a country you’ve never been to.
The Book: Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness
Why I chose it: I loved the first book and since I plan to use 2017 to catch up on all my series I need to finish I chose to use this to fill the challenge. The book is set in 1590 London, England; 1590 France, and 1591 Czech Republic all of which I have never been to, even in modern times xD
My Thoughts/Review:

April: A book with a man/boy on the cover.
The Book:
Why I chose it: TBD
My Thoughts/Review:

May: A book set in the 20th Century not about WWII.
The Book: To the Lighthouse by Virginia Wolf
Why I chose it: Virginia Wolf!
My Thoughts/Review:

June: A book told not exclusively in prose.
The Book: S. by JJ Abram
Why I chose it: Because it sounds really interesting, JJ Abrams is super cool, and it has been on the TBR from day 1. Time to get it read!
My Thoughts/Review: All of the stars!! I really, really enjoyed this book. One of the coolest books I have read in a long time!

July: The first book you see in a bookshop
The Book: TBD
Why I chose it:
My Thoughts/Review:

August: A book recommended by a Librarian
The Book: TBD
Why I chose it:
My Thoughts/Review:

September: A memoir/biography
The Book: Modoc: The True Story of the Greatest Elephant That Ever Lived by Ralph Helfer
Why I chose it: I was reminded that I still haven't read this book yet, so read it I shall!
My Thoughts/Review:

October: A book less than 250 pages long
The Book: TBD- possibly something by Jacob Appel or maybe The King of Average by Gary Schwartz
Why I chose it:
My Thoughts/Review:

November: A book recommended by someone in the club
The Book: TBD Maybe this one will be Caraval or Illuminae!?!
Why I chose it:
My Thoughts/Review:

December: A book out of your comfort zone
The Book: A Midwinter's Tail
Why I chose it: Luke has very kindly taken over the responsibility of choosing the book for this buddy read. It sounds interesting. It is out of my comfort zone because I am NOT fond of anthropomorphized animals in books...however I trust Lukes tastes and decision...and at the very least I won't be alone in this one! :D I am slightly intrigued at what a 'magical cat' will look like. 8}
