What are your reading goals for 2017?

message 2: by Jenny, Always smiling! :-D (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 12932 comments Mod
My goals for 2017!

Read 20 Adult Fiction Books
Read 10 Nonfiction Books
Finish 20 series
Read 80 books off of my shelves
Read 25 books off of my Kindle
Read 200 books total for the year

I think these are pretty good goals, and pretty similar to last years. I cut down the number of series I want to finish, though, and added the Kindle books. Kindle Unlimited books won't count for this goal, I want to read books I've bought and had on my Kindle awhile!

I have many other goals and ideas and challenges and things that are book or BookTube related, but I will have a video on all that posted on my channel soon. When I do, I'll post the link.

I'm considering adding Paradise Lost as well -- I read a handful of books this year that referenced it and got a copy for Christmas. We shall see. I've got a slew of huge books to get through.

Leigh | 403 comments My goal is to read 150 books this year and finish some of the series I have started. I finished quite a few last year. Hopefully I can do the same this year too.

I think I'd like to reread Game of Thrones in 2017. And get through more of my TBR list of books I own!

And I'm going for 150 books again.

Wow, awesome goals all!! My reading goal is only going to be 50 books this year, boo! I have less reading time these days, but that's okay! I hope to publish 5-6 novels in 2017 and about that many novellas as well. They will all be in the same series, so that will keep me plenty busy ;)

message 18: by Crisanda (new)

Crisanda | 11 comments Somewhere in November I got super excited about reading goals for next year and I made a 2017 TBR shelf. I'm terrible at reading what I plan because I'm a very moody reader, so I'm not sure why I did that. I don't think I'll be able to read as much as I did this year. I'm aiming for about 80 books.

This makes me so happy :)

message 21: by Victoria (new)

Victoria Zigler (toriz) | 4472 comments My 2017 reading goals are almost the same as my 2016 reading goals...

*Read at least 217 books (it's 217 I'm setting my Goodreads reading challenge for, but if I read more, that will be awesome). That's a book more than my 2016 goal, which was 216 books. With how many books I've read this year, I could set it higher, I suppose. But I have some writing and daily life related goals I want/need to give attention to as wel, so I don't want to increase the number too much, since I'd rather reach the number early than be stressing over not reaching it come next December.

*Focus at least a large chunk of my reading on those books I've had on my Kindle for some time (which are a mixture of classics, indie books, and newer traditionally published books). I know new releases will get my attention sometimes, and I dare say new purchases will happen, and I'll want to read some of them immediately. But I'd like to put a dent in the list of books waiting on my Kindle patiently for their turn to be read. This is an ongoing one, like it is for most of us, by the look of it. ;)

*Do the A-Z title reading challenge again.

Lanie (Sherwood1192yahoocom) | 81 comments I'm setting my 2017 goodreads reading challenge for 365! :D a book a day! Hope I can do it.

My more specific goal is to read every single book that I own but haven't read yet before I buy anything new. its about 270 books total. It's A lot, but I've decided to read what I have before buying anything new. It'll be tough since I love shopping for books!

I'm also going to read lots of library books so I can finish series that I don't own all the books to. Or if I find something that looks cool, but I won't let myself buy yet. ;D

Hope everyone's else's goals go great!

Lanie (Sherwood1192yahoocom) | 81 comments I'm also starting the year off by reading "fantastic beasts and where to find them" & rereading Harry Potter so I can finally read "the cursed child"

Lanie (Sherwood1192yahoocom) | 81 comments :D I don't know about all star. ;) I'm sure there's someone out there who will read more than me. But it's still an impressive challenge I suppose.

I do plan on reading a lot of manga & graphic novels, though. That'll really help, since they're pretty easy to read. I can finish an average sized manga in about 45-50 minutes.

Awww thank you! Reading is my superpower. (I need a tshirt that says that LOL!)

Donna (BookDragonGirl) (bookdragongirl) I still haven't decided on a number for 2017, but I'm going to take it one book at a time, read what I feel like reading and just enjoy myself. Not that I won't join challenges and read books of the month. Those are fun. But I want to make the goal of making reading about the love of reading, the escape from reality, and the feeling of excitement when I start a new book. No more feeling the pressure of getting certain books or a certain number of books read. That can really take the joy out of reading. Then I end up in a kind of slump where I don't want to read anything, because it's more like a job than a passion (like it used to be).

So that's my goal for 2017...One book at a time, read what I FEEL like reading and just ENJOY myself.

That sounds like exactly what I did this year, Donna, and I really enjoyed my reading, even though I didn't hit the number of books I was aiming for. If I didn't like a book a picked up in the first 10 percent or so, I usually just put it down and moved on. It's ALL ABOUT the love of reading, just like you said!
