Karen ⊰✿ | 3767 comments Hi everyone!

I'm Karen and I love team challenges and have been doing them for about 4 years including devising and running UNO for the last two (well, I guess this is #3!)

Favourite genres are fiction, historical fiction, YA and Fantasy

I'm not sure about 2017 books apart from the series books that I need to be published ;) like Our Dark Duet, A Conjuring of Light, Helix and Peace Talks

message 4: by Chava (new)

Chava | 528 comments Hi all,

I'm Chava and I'm in Australia. This will be my second time joining the UNO challenge and I can't wait! I have serious withdrawal symptoms :).

My favourite genres would be mystery, thriller, anything gruesome I enjoy :). I also don't mind solid fiction that makes me think and challenges my views.

I'm looking forward to the new Lisa Gardner releases and some other books I just got through Netgalley :).

I usually have 3 books on the go at any one time: 1 audiobook for the 1 hour commute each way to and from work; 1 ebook for the weekdays and 1 paperback for the weekends when I don't have access to the other 2 :).

message 5: by Karen ⊰✿, Avaricious Reader (new)

Karen ⊰✿ | 3767 comments Nice to see you here again Chava!

I do the same with three books. It certainly helps me read more as there is always something available to read wherever I am :)

message 6: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Hello hello!!

Gotta say, Karen, this was a lovely thing to see first thing in the morning in the new year when logging into GoodReads! :-) Made my day haha.

Uno 2015 was my first reading challenge and it got me hooked, oops. It is however the one challenge, apart from a Bingo I discovered last year, that I really am very much looking forward to every year.

Favourite genres are fantasy, thriller and... I'm kind of stuck on fantasy at the moment, disregarding everything else. It always has been and probably always will be my go-to genre.

Lol, yes, Chava, that's what I do, too! I'm not much of an audio fan but from time to time I listen to Harry Dresden books. Since I take the bus to work though I can usually easily sit and read a paperback. Ebooks are for sneaking reading in during work hours ;-) Otherwise I usually always have a paperback in my hands and never leave the house without one.

Books I can't wait to read in 2017:
Empire of Storms (Throne of Glass, #5) by Sarah J. Maas Magic Binds (Kate Daniels, #9) by Ilona Andrews Fire Touched (Mercy Thompson, #9) by Patricia Briggs The Caller (Robert Hunter, #8) by Chris Carter Dawn Study (Soulfinders, #3) by Maria V. Snyder
And whatever else will be newly released that will work with the above.

Hi Karen {waves excitedly}
It's so nice to see you around again. I have changed jobs and instead of driving 40 minutes each way it's now over an hour, so I'm hoping to get through more audiobooks this year. I've become a member of another library was well, 6 and counting now :)

message 8: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 935 comments Aloha everyone and Happy New Year!! I'm Lauri from Hawaii and I was so excited to see the UNO sign up today! I played for the 1st time last year & really had fun. I most enjoy mystery, chick-lit & historical fiction, but I'll read just about everything. I am a compulsive book starter & read multiple books simultaneously.
Because I only borrow books from my public library, I'm usually behind the times when it comes to new books. I'm looking forward to reading Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Parts 1 & 2 this year. I've decided my first book of 2017 will be Silence

message 9: by Zahra (new)

Zahra (skipdips) | 66 comments Hi all, I'm Fatimah! Before this, I joined the UNO challenge once back in 2015. It was a lot of fun and my teammates were all awesome. I had to skip last year because senior year was hectic and I moved out for college. My favourite genres are high fantasy, shoujo manga, and mystery.
Books that I cannot wait to read in 2017:
Strange the Dreamer (Strange the Dreamer, #1) by Laini Taylor The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet (Wayfarers, #1) by Becky Chambers The Magicians (The Magicians #1) by Lev Grossman Froi of the Exiles (Lumatere Chronicles, #2) by Melina Marchetta Words in Deep Blue by Cath Crowley Looking for Alibrandi by Melina Marchetta

message 10: by Ora (new)

Ora (oeamis) HI! I have played in team challenges before. Last year was my first year playing UNO. It really depends on my mood to what is my favorite at the time and will read whatever is necessary to fulfill a challenge requirement. I love chick lit, erotica, fantasy, historical fantasy, historical romance, science fiction, contemporary, epic fantasy.
A Court of Wings and Ruin (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #3) by Sarah J. Maas Feversong (Fever, #9) by Karen Marie Moning Silence Fallen (Mercy Thompson, #10) by Patricia Briggs Next Throne of Glass and Kate Daniels

message 11: by Laura (new)

Laura Hi everyone, Happy New Year! I'm Laura from Canada. I suspect that I am a team challenge addict and love UNO. My favorite genres are mystery, YA, historical fiction and fantasy. I'm going to start 2017 off with a bang and read Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult . Next up will be Fellside by M.R. Carey I can't wait for UNO to start!

Caly ☯ Crazy Book Lady Greetings! I am new to this group but I do belong to NBRC and did W.O.B.B.L.E. with them last year and loved it! I love team challenges!
I enjoy chatting about books and the motivation of being part of a team.

Obviously I have not played UNO before but it sounds like fun. I love Historical Fiction and Fantasy but will tackle most any genre except Romance.

I have given myself the 2017 PopSugar Challenge to complete as well so I am currently reading The Name of the Wind (The Kingkiller Chronicle, #1) by Patrick Rothfuss for that but I am looking forward to
Lily and the Octopus by Steven Rowley , The Soul of an Octopus A Surprising Exploration into the Wonder of Consciousness by Sy Montgomery , The Vegetarian by Han Kang , and The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane by Lisa See so you can see I have varied tastes in books!
Look forward to getting to know you all.

Happy Reading.

message 13: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1876 comments Hello Everyone {waves}!

I'm Judith from the US. I know I'm a team challenge addict. This will be my third go at UNO and actually UNO was my gateway challenge into the world of team challenges.

I was a co-captain last year (hello Chava!!). I was also a team captain for Tower Teams IV and Wobble over in the NBRC group.

I think my favorite genres are mystery, YA, historical, fantasy, and romance. But I read pretty much anything that seems interesting.

And the books I'm going to read in 2017? Oh my by TBR list is long and the books in my office have piled up, but one of my first reads of the year is going to be Wait for It by Zapata.

message 14: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments Hi all.

I'm Alison from the UK and this will be my third Uno challenge. I started in the same team as Judith (hello Judith *waves*) in 2015 and was co captain last year. I'm now completely addicted to any and all team challenges but Uno is a particular favourite :)

I read pretty much any fiction genre but I do tend to favor YA, fantasy, thriller and romance.

Books I'm most excited about in 2017?
Carve the Mark (Carve the Mark, #1) by Veronica Roth A Conjuring of Light (Shades of Magic, #3) by V.E. Schwab Caraval (Caraval, #1) by Stephanie Garber King's Cage (Red Queen, #3) by Victoria Aveyard Wonder Woman Warbringer (DC Icons, #1) by Leigh Bardugo

message 15: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 1251 comments Hi everyone!
My name is Camilla and I'm from Finland. I can't remember what my first team challenge was, probably something either here or in NBRC a couple of years back, and I've participated in UNO before.

My favorite genres are horror, fantasy, and scifi, although I read most genres. No special books that I would be longing for this year.

message 16: by maria helena (new)

maria helena (mariahel) | 964 comments Hi everyone!

I'm maria helena and UNO is one of my all-time favourite team challenges. I'm so happy we get to play it again!

My favourite genres are mystery/crime (especially nordic crime) and thrillers. Some the books high on my tbr list for 2017 are:

Why Did You Lie? by Yrsa Sigurðardóttir Kaninjägaren (Joona Linna, #6) by Lars Kepler The Wrong Side of Goodbye (Harry Bosch, #21; Harry Bosch Universe, #24) by Michael Connelly Sov du lilla videung (Rönning & Stilton, #4) by Cilla Börjlind The Chalk Pit (Ruth Galloway, #9) by Elly Griffiths

message 17: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 1864 comments Hi All,
I was so excited to start a new year on GR and see there was going to be another UNO challenge! Thank you, Karen! UNO is my favorite team challenge!

I was co-captain for team Harpy Owl on WOBBLE. Hello captain, Laura and aloha teammate, Lauri!

My first book of the year is the same as Laura's Small Great Things. Laura and I had many "great minds think alike" moments during WOBBLE, so not too surprised we're starting out the year reading the same book. Ha!

My favorite genre is historical fiction. I love getting recommendations from teammates for great books!

message 18: by Plethora (new)

Plethora (bookworm_r) | 122 comments Hi everyone, New to this group, saw a post by a friend about this team challenge come across my feed and knew I had to get in on the action.

I am a NBRC member as well, and was a co-captain for Team Tapir for wobble.

I hail from the Pacific Northeast region of the wet US.

Favorite genres, non-fiction history and historical fiction.

A few books that look interesting coming out in 2017:

Mrs. Sherlock Holmes: The True Story of New York City's Greatest Female Detective and the 1917 Missing Girl Case That Captivated a Nation by Brad Ricca

Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman

A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab

Our Dark Duet by Victoria Schwab

The Lost City of the Monkey God: A True Story by Douglas Preston

Pachinko by Min Jin Lee

You can thank Annika because she sent me a reminder message about doing it and I think I was kind of avoiding thinking about it because wobble was so crazy.,...lol. So I need this challenge as a panacea :)

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 1505 comments Hi there.. I LOVED the UNO challenge last year and our awesome team. Looking forward to playing again.

I've been playing Team Challenges on Goodreads for about five years.

Love anything romantic or historical but really I will read anything. (Including cereal boxes or the ads on the back of a bus!)

Great to see some familiar faces already .. and new ones ready to fall under the spell of UNO, LOL.

~~~N~~~ (chocolate-cannibal-bunnies) | 376 comments Hi! My name's Noa, and this will be my second time competing. I'm definitely reading fewer books than I did for the last challenge, but I really love this group challenge and I hope I still bring a lot to my team :) I'm an Australian living on a small Micronesian island. (Believe I saw a Polynesian on here as well, hi!)
I've been hooked on M/M Romance for a while now, but my fallback/comfort genre is Fantasy (Epics in particular).
I'm looking forward to a couple of releases during the timeframe, but I ave no particular plans for my reading.
It's great to see some of the people from last year again (hope you're doing well)!
Hi Noa! Which island are you living on? I have a friend from Christmas Island, friends and relatives from Palau & cousins living in Queensland. I'm on Oahu in Hawaii... Born & raised, but not ethnically Hawaiian.
Hi, Karen, Nanci & Laura! It's nice to make new friends, but even nicer to see familiar names & icons!!
So -- what is everyone reading right now?
message 27: by ~~~N~~~ (new)
~~~N~~~ (chocolate-cannibal-bunnies) | 376 comments Palau is beautiful! I live on Saipan. I was born in Sydney, but was raised here. Also not ethnically from the Northern Marianas, but people say I pass as part local and I've actually often been mistaken as Hawaiian when I meet foreigners.

I've not spent much time on Hawaii. Have you travelled this way to visit family or vacation?

Currently reading nothing! Finished a book half an hour ago (a fairytale retelling, which I don't usually enjoy, but happened to this time). What are you reading?

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 110 comments Hi everyone. I'm Carmen and just joined the group because I hear that you ladies have some fun team challenges and I also see quite a few friends here too, awesome. Hi Karen.

I've been on quite a few Team challenges on NBRC and I've also been a captain for a bunch of them. I see my co-captain Plethora from Tapirs is here. Hi Plethora.

I haven't joined UNO before. This is my first time. My favorite genre is romance and mystery of all types. As for books that I can't wait for 2017 to come out, I would say anything that sounds good :-)

message 29: by Karen ⊰✿, Avaricious Reader (new)

Karen ⊰✿ | 3767 comments Is it really your first time Carmen? So funny when I see familiar names and just assume you've all been here before ;)

I'm currently reading The Horse Dancer which I'm really disappointed about as it is the one Jojo Moyes book I can say I haven't enjoyed. I've also started Dune for the first time!

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 367 comments Oooh lots of familiar names! Is this a WOBBLE reunion? ;)

Hi everyone! I'm Kathleen but please call me Kat. I'm from the Philippines and I've been playing team challenges ever since someone introduced me to NBRC (I think?). I played UNO before but skipped it last year.

I'm a genre-hopping moody reader ;) but my go-to genres are fantasy, chick lit and mystery.

My currently reading shelf has got 5 books in it but I haven't really made much progress ever since I started them. I guess I need to finish them before UNO starts or else they shall wait fr half a year before being picked up again.

Excited for a lot of books this year! Hopefully it will be an awesome reading year for all of us!

Yes my dear it's my first time playing Uno here. I can't believe Mojo has written a book that someone doesn't like. I still haven't read Me Before You but that because I really don't want to cry but I just finished a tearjerker so I don't see why shouldn't I go for it. hehe. I picked up Dune so I will be starting it soon. I've never read a book from him so I hope its not a disappointment :)

Eldarwen wrote: "Haha, awesome that you found your way to this challenge as well, Carmen! :-)"

E! *tackle hugs* How's it going? It's been awhile. I've missed are fun times and I was actually lead here by Plethora. She's been a *cough* great influence on my challenge addiction. hahaha. We haven't been really good for each other, I think we're on challenge overload but we quite enjoy feeding each other. LOL but hey new year new groups, more fun challenges and seeing friends why not ;)

Kat it does seem like the Wobblers streak again. hahahaha

Unlike you, with Plethora's bad influence *grin*, I have pulled back from challenges a bit hehe. And no no, don't even think about it!! ;-) Though there is BSB of course... hehe.

But I agree on what you said nevertheless! Challenges really are a good place to see friends :-)

I've been pretty busy but doing well. I'm also in BSB too. I really like that challenge. It does take a while to come though but well worth the wait :) Hmm, I'm curious about that too. Its been quite awhile since we've been on a team together but there's always chats :)

Lot's of familiar faces here :) This will be my third UNO and like many others my first challenge was UNO!

I'm from Australia and I'm loving that after such a miserable winter we have some decent sunny days happening.

As with every other year this year I'm looking forward to reading the never ending pile of books I own as opposed to the one's from the library. I need to read the last two Throne of Glass books (might re-read from the beginning) and A Court of Mist and Fury!!

I'm listening to The One Plus One by Moyes on audiobook at the moment and I'm loving it

Laura | 2892 comments Hello. My name is Laura and I'm a team challenge addict. Thanks for listening today! I do all the team challenges over at AMMP. And I did Wobble. This my second time participating in SOS's Bookshelf Bingo. And this is my third time doing Uno. I too, was led into team challenges by Uno!

My favorite genre is fantasy. High, epic, urban, paranormal. I love it all. And sci-fi. Take me into space and I can't wait to read it.

Books I can't wait to read this year:

Anne Bishop's new novel about The Others. (And I re-read the series for every new one!) There is a character named Vlad in there, if you're looking for a 'V'!

Anything Jim Butcher puts out this year.

And I have 2 newish David Weber books that I didn't realize were out but have since gotten from my library! Those suckers are long, but no one can write space opera like David Weber.

Oh, and one more. The Black Wolves of Boston by Wen Spencer . Wen Spencer posts excerpts on Facebook as she's writing, and I can't wait to read this one! And it's really fascinating to see the changes she makes. She talks about her writing process and posts a bunch on Facebook!

Kazen Hello all! I'm new to the group but I see a lot of familiar faces, including Maria Helena who wouldn't stop PMing me until I joined, hehe. ;)

Yea challenges! I've done a bunch before in other groups and have always heard good things about Uno so I'm excited to get started. :) I'm an American living in Japan and love reading romance, urban fantasy, non-fiction, and plain ol' fiction.

I'm looking forward to a ton of books this year! I backed off on my Goodreads challenge number for 2017 so I'll be attacking more chunksters - London Belongs to Me by Norman Collins and Working People Talk About What They Do All Day and How They Feel About What They Do by Studs Terkel are near the top of the list.

Carrie (icanhasbooks) | 143 comments Hello I just signed up my name is Carrie, through my years on GR I have been in a few team challenges, mostly bingo. I have yet to do the Uno Challenge though, so I may be a little slow at first in the understanding but after a round I should catch on.

My favorite genres are fantasy, young adult, historical, romance, mystery, science fiction.

Books I can't wait for in 2017, I don't really know what is coming out yet, I know Brandon Sanderson is releasing something new. I'm actually most excited about tackling some series that have been long over due my attention. Ones that I have only a book or two left in them to finish. So I really hope to clue up a few series this year and to finally getting around to reading a handful of the recommend to me books other GR members have suggested.
