I'm thinking that it's about time that I return to reading. I am going to give myself the most ridiculous easy goal possible; I am going to read TWELVE books this year! LOL Now those who know me know that I can easily read twelve books in two weeks, much less twelve MONTHS, but life has gotten crazy and my reading has taken a backseat. Sigh I can't put it back in the driver's seat, but maybe it can ride shotgun for a while.

kate | 203 comments Hi! Welcome back and good luck.

I'm trying to cut back on my reading. Maybe I need to go cold turkey like you and ease myself back too. Either that or get a real life. I'll be 70 in June and find I'm still a work in progress. I might as well flush my bucket list I can't even get through my to do list. Hope you and the family have a great new year.

Haha Happy New Year, Kate! It's so great to hear from you! How are you doing? We had a good holiday season. I took the kids out of school a week early and we spent that time in New York. My best friend lives there and was off that week. We had a great time! Christmas and New Years were quiet ones at home with family. I know what you mean about the to do list. My seems to get longer and longer everyday. I miss reading!!! I was only able to do cold turkey because other things took over. LOL I know you're a huge reader though. How many books did you read last year??

message 4: by kate (new)

kate | 203 comments I may not be objective on the subject but there is nothing like New York at Christmas. It has an energy all it's own.

I put down I read 217 I think but the number was hire then that. There are probably another 10 or so I read and didn't want to admit to. You know how it is.
However I would rather have said I read a hundred books but my windows are sparkling. My appliances are shiny and there is no mold growing in the bathroom. Okay so I'm lying. Except about the mold. Nasty stuff that. Well maybe when I'm eighty I'll care about that crap. Something to look forward to.

Hahahaha Kate you're a riot! Look I didn't read any books last year and MY windows are NOT sparkling, so don't feel too badly. LOL What are you reading now?

Janet, where are you????

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Omg here I am! I ironically enough have been nose deep in my kindle. Lol. I stopped long enough to eat lunch and throw a roast in the oven. I have cut sugar and carbs out of my life if my worst vice is reading than I can live with that. I am still hooking and sold quite a bit to co workers and friends. Like $1000 worth and still getting orders here and there. I have set the goal of 120 as I read 117 last year. I'm reading an old favorite called moonlighting by ola Werner. It's a p&p werewolf variation. I also have got tickets for 50 shades darker on the 10th of next month. Other than that just hanging out around the house

Hi EB, how ya doing? Glad to see you back. I haven't started a book as yet, but I plan to get to one by this weekend. Congrats on the "hooking." LOL I'm telling you, that hat you made for Lucian is hands down his favorite! He wears it ALL THE TIME!! And I'm not just talking when he goes out. It's regularly a part of whatever dress up outfit he wears during playtime. LOL

Kate! What ya reading now?

message 10: by kate (new)

kate | 203 comments Elizabeth is HOOKING????? Well no doubt it's more fun then her previous job. No judgement here.

On the more mundane front. I just finished reading Empty Mansions a well researched but dreary book about the fabulously wealthy Hugette Clark who lived to be 104 and had such a sad and miserable life it made you glad you were born in The Bronx. Well written but I wouldn't recommend it in less you've been so overabundance happy lately you need something to bring you down.

Yes Kate, hooking! LOL I have a facebook page called The Happy Hooker. https://www.facebook.com/happyhookerc...#
I am reading your Doll book and a P&P vampire book. BTW Caron your new cover is cool. I have been on a P&P kick lately. I even watched P&P zombies. LOL. Lizzy is a bad ass in it. I really enjoyed Darcy's proposal to her as they did a hand to hand combat during his usual botched words. I got rid of my cable as it was getting so expensive and got the amazon firestick and a friend of a friend jailbroke it so I can get damn near any movie I like and only pay $50 for my internet a month. I work tonight and right now am watching it snow out my window. I went on a walk earlier and froze my butt off but I wanted to get out and exercise.

When are you ever not on a P&P kick? LOL That's cool about you reading my book. Which cover are you talking about...the redo of #1, or the one for book #2? I thought you said you kind of preferred the old cover for the first book?

That is indeed awesome news about your cable! Wish I could do something like that, but Brian refuses to live without HD!!! Ugh! Still haven't started a book as yet, but I'm leaning towards something with a sexy highlander in it. LOL

message 14: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments I actually preferred your redo cover it was cleaner and more polished but I was referring to your go cart cover. I get movies still out at the theatre at home. I got rogue one and I am dying to see the new cartoon Sing. Sometimes it takes a few weeks after the movies out at theatres to get but I have no problem with picture quality. Bridget jones baby was funny. I still hated the idea of it but Colin was really funny. I've seen so many movies that I've never seen bc of it and no commercials ever. Regular intena makes it possible to get local news channels and such but no more cable bill.

message 15: by kate (new)

kate | 203 comments I'm with you Elizabeth. I cut my cable and don't miss it at all. Only wish I had done it sooner. Life without commercials is good. Not to mention I cut my bill by 70%.
As soon as I can grab one of the kids I'll checkout your Facebook page. Looking forward to it.

message 16: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Cool Kate! Yeah I had a bundle package with phone, cable and internet. I was paying $160 a month. Now I have the magic jack which will be $35 a year for phone. My first year is free so I don't pay this year. And then the internet fee. It's a big difference.

message 17: by kate (new)

kate | 203 comments my last bill was $205 and came with a note they were raising it the following month. I did have 4 boxes @$10 each and the electric company told me the boxes use $7.50 each a month in electric. Dropped them off at the cable company and never looked back.
I use Ooma for the phone. The device was $67 but the service is free. However I pay a 4 something tax on my free service. How the government figured out how to tax free I'll never know. Sound like you got a better deal with the magic jack though.

message 18: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments I've never heard of ooma. I have so many friends that switched to the fire stick that I wish I would have done it sooner. It's crazy how much money I wasted this year alone. I can't believe the boxes used that much electric. Big brother is into everything. Got to get their cut. Lol. Well I got to start getting ready for work. I'll check back in a little bit

Thanks for the feedback, EB. I remember you saying you liked the original better, but the new one does grow on you. I love the second cover! My new cover artist has an amazing talent, and she's so easy to work with!

I can't believe I missed all the chit chat back and forth. I don't know how come I never got an alert from Goodreads. I just checked by chance. Anyway, I'll have to look into doing something about our blasted cable bill. It's ridiculous! We really have all this cable because of my husband, which seriously makes no sense. The kids can get everything they like on Netflix.

LOL Why would you be disgusted, you think? No I haven't read it as yet!!! I'm such a miserable excuse of a reader. But I've been so busy, immersed preparing for the release of my second book, that everything else gets pushed by the wayside. That is no excuse, though. At least it's not a good excuse. Sigh.

message 26: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments I have such high hopes for this book that I'm afraid like others in the past that I looked forward to disappointed me. Devil on winter has to be her #1 book she has written because of all the wallflowers she chose to revive his tale. She'll probably tie in the others at some point but I just fear he won't stand up to the test

Yeah I hear you. That is often the case when an author writes a spin off of a series. Hopefully that won't be the case this time. Kleypas is such an amazing author.

I'm sure. I know what a huge Kleypas fanatic you are! LOL BTW did you finish Dilemma? Can you write a review for it? I'd appreciate it so much! Man trying to get reviews is like pulling teeth. Most people don't bother with them at all. As many of us who write tons, there are a hundred times more who don't write any whatsoever. Sigh.

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments I received this book for my honest review from the author. I'd like to mention Caron and I met on line discussing various books we have both enjoyed and believe me her love of books is directly reflected in her writing. Her passion for law is definitely the inspiration behind this imaginative read. The book begins when Jennifer Corbett's Glamour Girl doll, Rebecca,is found with a missing head and an argument between her and her twin brother Jimmy is overheard by a their friend Luanna. What I liked was the image that was reflected through using strong family values. Luanna comes from a family where both loving parents are lawyers and she gets the idea to create the kids Court to solve what happened to Jen's doll. It is the scenes with the parents talking with her about how the law works but also the the 11 year old girl who informs her mother she does not need to be tucked in before bed that as a parent I love to see. These are the books our young impressionable kids are going to read and I can't think of a better way than to instill in them at a young age strong self confidence and imagination. As a parent we can talk until we're blue in the face but when they sit alone and read kids identify with the characters they read about. You are encouraged through the pages to try to solve the case before the kids, at least I was. I am a big fan of puzzle solving. The neighborhood kids become active participants in the trial and even become members of the court. The very end I would think most have an idea of who the culprit is but as one case comes to a conclusion the next case presents itself. I would recommend this book to anyone who has younger children as I feel its educational as well as entertaining. Enjoy!

Aww thanks, EB! That's very sweet. I'm glad you liked it. But one question....don't you sleep? LOL I'm assuming you were working last night? Brian is taking the kids up to his parents for the night tonight; it's his Dad's birthday. I am determined to start reading a book TODAY! Even if it is only a reread. The problem is that I have no idea which genre I want to read. Oh, you know what? Maybe I'll start reading the first Harrry Potter book. I made it all the way through book 4 in the series, and even started book 5, but never went any further. I think that's when everything in life start to change; like our move east. Because I never finished the books I refused to finish watching the movies as I didn't want the stories to be spoiled for when I read them. And now that I've decided that I want to finish reading the series I think I need to start over from the beginning because I've forgotten so much of the details.

Anyhow, thanks so much EB!! When is the second Grays coming out?

Awesome! Be safe driving home. How's your winter been so far? Ours has been quite mild, I have to admit. We had a blizzard last weekend, but other than a few really cold days with temps in the single digits, we've been okay. The past few days have been in the forties and raining on and off. It's crazy!

Anywho, we'll talk later...after you've had a few Z's.

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Aww my last night of midnights until Monday. It's been pretty crazy these few days. I don't miss the snow but we have still had some days with ice and that truly is what I hate most. It's all dried up by the river. It took off with two of my husbands tables we had stuck in the ground. That current ripped them straight out of the ground and washed it downstream.

Kate pbs on 1-15-17 at 9p has a movie called crown coming on it's about queen Victoria. Looks good

kate | 203 comments Hi Elizabeth...I see you've been in a reading slump. I was going to suggest to you Bet Me or The Cinderella Deal by Jennifer Cruise both about modern women that are not total bimbos. But hopefully Captured works for you.

I'm behind on my reading myself. I don't know if you remember but 5 years ago I had a partial mascectomy on my right side. This year it's the left. I had surgery last Tuesday. On top of that my hot water heater died and my dryer cooked out. It never rains but it pours. The good news is I now have a matched set. Books not water heaters. Take care.

Caron...sorry I didn't answer your message but your on my to do list and moving closer to the top every day.

Please do send me picks. I have two new great grandchildren this year. Jonathan is 7 mos and Leah is 11 mos. My granddaughter Marissa is 7 now and my other two gg are Bella 3 and TJ 2. Except for Leah they all get dropped off Friday and picked up Sunday unless their mothers forget. My granddaughter doesn't leave Leah because she says I'm to old to babysit. YES, YES and YES. That's what I keep saying. Maybe I'll hide one of the kids next week and say I've misplaced them. Actually I haven't babysat since my surgery but I don't know how long I can milk it. Every cloud.
