I was looking at Rather Be the Devil by Ian Rankin, but never read one of his books before. I know there is a John Rebus series, do you have to read them in order or can you dip in (like I plan to do)?

Ellen, I've read them out of order as I find them. I would image it would be nice to read them in order to keep all the relationships straight but I don't think you have to. I've still enjoyed them.

Tim | 11 comments Yes I agree, i started reading them whenever i found them b ut now I have gone back and read in order to get a bit more of the back story.

Each is a good story on its own, but I like to get the broader picture

Ok, thanks, would be quite cool to read them in order...

It does sound a bit odd, Tim!

Yes Peggy, Its almost as if the Author wanted to build in too many threads,
Global Warming, disfunctional families, coincidences, Trans Gender issues in puberty, incest, the characters in a caravan park (they where great), death of family, self discovery. They dont all work together but I guess thats life.

Im still interested to read her book The Panopticon

Tim | 11 comments Eye Of The Raven I think that once you have read some Ken McClure they get a bit samey, still a fun story with some science thrown in among the nasties, but our hero (Stephen Dunbar) always makes good and heads off into the sunset to do it all again next time.

Of the two, I much preferred The Panopticon (although its bleak in parts).
