I haven't started this one yet - I got side tracked by any unexpected trilogy that is demanding I read all three right now before anything else happens .... Tell me your thoughts as this is next on my list so I'm a completely open slate on this one.

Scott (dodger1379) | 9 comments I'll get it started (and add more details later) by saying this is quite simply the best book I've read in 20 years. If you haven't read it - I would recommend it. Great characters, pacing, action, humor.

Donna (donnahr) I listened to this series last year and loved it. I would call it a traditional fantasy (whatever that means). The story and the characters are totally engaging. It's long if you read the whole series (over 80 hours in audio) but very much worth it. The narrator was excellent.

Ben Rowe (benwickens) The first thing to say about the book is it is really the first two novels in a 6 part series. You can read the first book and get a decent enough resolution without going onto the second. Ditto you can read the second without going onto reading the rest.

They are a modern spin on old fashioned style second world fantasy with elves, dwarves, magic etc. Very easy and fun reading with a little bit of intrigue and lots of action with a small amount of humor thrown in.

Does not re-invent the wheel, nothing terribly original but a lot of fun can be had with this series.

Suzanne I enjoyed this book (and the series) so much. It is exciting, and has some great humor without being silly.

I just finished the first book so that puts me a 43% through and this is highly entertaining. It's well-written, nice pacing, funny without being stupid or punny. I'm enjoying it.

L.K. Evans | 5 comments This is one of my favorite series and Royce is my second fav character of all time. I was addicted to these when I read them just a few months ago. Blew through the whole Revelations series as well as the Chronicles in a weekend. Amazing books and a great author.

I think the wide cast is good, but my favorite parts are the interactions between Royce and Hadrium.

Suzi (suzpep) | 23 comments I am about 25% through and I am enjoying it so far. Some good world creation and backstory without getting overly complex and brain-taxing. I like the monk character. And I even like the Alric character.

Chad (doctorwinters) I liked this book a lot. I'm about to start the second omnibus. Felt like a modernized Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser which is not a bad thing at all.

Angélique (MapleBooks) (maplebooks) I'm passing on this one... the library didn't have it available till the end of Time. :/

Michael I'm skipping this one for now - too many fantasy series on the go at the moment to add another without my head exploding. Given some of the feedback, definitely one I'll come back to though.

Suzi (suzpep) | 23 comments I just finished Riyria #1. Unexpected twist to the end of things. A little bit convenient for tying up some of the conflicts.

Suzi (suzpep) | 23 comments so is anyone still reading this? i am about 1/2 way thru book 2. It is a bit slower than book 1, but getting into some political depth.

I think the first part did move a little slower in the second book. But it picked up, for me anyways, towards the middle-ish 3/4 way in. I think the views from Modina were interesting, but definitely slower. Be prepared for more of those in book 3.

Maggie K I finished this over the weekend, and thoroughly enjoyed it. As someone else said, it isnt very original, but it is a great tale with good characterization...very enjoyable

Suzi (suzpep) | 23 comments finished book two and must move on to Rise of Empire, immediately... just as soon as it finishes downloading. :-)

It really is a great story. I lost an entire weekend to the Revelations series and the Chronicles. Couldn't put them down, much less sleep. Happy reading :)

Wow Scott, thanks so much for that. I'm honored. Thanks so much for making it one of our monthly reads. It looks like people enjoyed it. Writing a book is its own reward, but hearing that people enjoyed the shared experience pales in comparison - so thanks for making my day.
