Review:
CHIC-LIT/LAURIE HALSE ANDERSON CATEGORY This novel by Laurie Halse Anderson is difficult to categorize. It seems to have all the aspects of a romance, but anyone who categorizes this book under romance has made a terrible fallacy. The subject matter of this novel deals with much more than just boy with girl relationships. Its primary focus is on comprehending others and creating a friendship for those who may not want it but need it most. Kate Malone, the protagonist, is largely a nerd who thinks she has her whole life planned ahead of her. This of course is not the case. Teri, a girl that has been commonly bullied (but has also dished out her share of bullying), comes into the picture and Kate must deal with a girl completely opposite personality living in her room at one of the most crucial times in her life. Though most boys may not be interested in this read, I would still suggest this for every young adult. The lessons in this novel stretch further than any genre or any class of readers. Its themes are powerful and life changing. I highly recommend this read.
