Sara Nominate one book you would like the group to read for May's monthly challenge - a book set during wartime.

Post the title and the author (please use the add book/author link for the book title)

Rules:
One nomination of one book per member. If you post multiple books only the first one will be counted.

***Also, please do not simply say "I second what so-and-so put". If you do not list the name of the book in your post it will not be counted.***

The top 6 most nominated books will be added to a poll which will open after the nominations have been closed and counted.

Nominations will close on Thursday, March 23.

No other posts in this thread. If you wish to discuss the merits of the books you can do so on the individual prompt thread: Challenge prompt thread for a book set during wartime

From Amazon's description:

Soon to be a movie titled The Exception starring Christopher Plummer, Lily James, and Jai Courtney, this “crisp, adroit, and subtle tale of great personal power” (The New York Times) follows the exiled Kaiser Wilhelm, the young Nazi officer assigned to guard him, and the Jewish maid who unwittingly comes between them.

A Town Like Alice set (partly) in Malaya during WWII. I already read it for this category, but I'd enjoy a discussion about it!

Chrissy | 387 comments I like a lot of the other nominees listed above, but have already read many of them. Since is an 100th anniversary relating to WWI a lot of new books are coming out. Looking through the list, I found something that looks interesting:

The Hello Girls: America's First Women Soldiers (not in GR database yet, Amazon says will be released in mid-April)

Here's the first part of the Amazon blurb:
This is the story of how America’s first women soldiers helped win World War I, earned the vote, and fought the U.S. Army. In 1918, the U.S. Army Signal Corps sent 223 women to France. They were masters of the latest technology: the telephone switchboard. General John Pershing, commander of the American Expeditionary Forces, demanded female “wire experts” when he discovered that inexperienced doughboys were unable to keep him connected with troops under fire. Without communications for even an hour, the army would collapse.

WWI started already in 1914, the centenary was commemorated three years ago. USA only joined it in 1917.
