Contestants can leave Produce 101 either by being eliminated, leaving of their own volition, or having their contract terminated by the show itself.

There are seven rounds of eliminations on Produce 101 — 31 contestants are eliminated in the first round, 20 in the second, 10 in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth, until the seventh round, where only 3 contestants are eliminated to form the final seven members.

Their elimination is chosen through 80% audience voting and 20% judging panel. Thought it is not 100% possible to know why the audiences will vote for any particular contestant, judges will make their decisions based on the criteria below.

Members can choose who to eliminate via polls within the group. In case of any issues, e.g. the numbers are too similar, no one voted etc., then moderators will step in. Though there's no 100% guarantee that the following criteria will save you from elimination, they will help (as both moderators and members will like your characters more this way!)

The following criteria are used into order to decide who gets eliminated, alongside member votes:

— Activity ( automatic elimination upon inactivity or incompletion of character tasks )
— Character tasks ( this will also allow you to express your character in other ways and make them more appealing to keep on the show )
— Well-roundedness ( you may want to reconsider the rankings in your profile )
