Beth (bbulow) | 2403 comments We are a Christian Fiction group that also enjoys spending time getting to know each other. We share laughter, tears, and our prayer requests in order to stand strong in this sometimes crazy world we live in. Of course, we all love to read. And, we don't just read, we also enjoy playing games and chatting with each other. Please come and join in on all the fun!!

Here is the basic set up for our group:
- Join in as much or as little as your schedule allows
- Our Group Read runs from the 1st of the month to the end of the month
- Voting for our Group Read typically runs from the 15th of the month to the end of the month. The voting is for a month in advance. So, for example, the voting period ending September 30 will be for the group read we will read in November. This allows all the members time to find, borrow, buy, lend, and read the book before the discussions end. The book with the most votes will be the group read.
-Nominations: Any Christian Fiction book that will have been out for at least 3 months at the start of the group read is eligible for nomination.
-AUTHORS, please do not nominate your own book.
- Some months we may be a little off schedule due to life "getting in the way." Please bear with us and we will have voting/nominations open as close to the schedule as we can.
- You do not have to participate in the group reads in order to be part of our group. We understand everyone has very different schedules and may not always have time to read along with us.

IMPORTANT
- Please do not create new threads - there are plenty of threads to explore in our group, and we want things to stay tidy. Usually there is already a spot for any new thread a member creates. If there is a discussion that you think the group should have, please make the suggestion in this thread https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/..., and the moderators will decide upon and create the new thread.
- All posts/new discussions are subject to deletion upon the sole discretion of the moderators.

And most importantly: HAVE FUN!!

Beth (bbulow) | 2403 comments Group Guidelines

Attn Authors:
- We LOVE authors here in our group. Please share with us in the Welcome Authors section a little about yourself and your books so that we can support you! You can find that here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/....
- We do not want our group to become an advertising board for your book. Please be respectful of our members and keep your advertising to the section designated above (Spotlight Your Book).
- We respectfully ask that you do not start new discussions to advertise your books or ask questions that are only relevant to your book or pertain only to your book. (Any discussion doing so will be immediately deleted.)
- We respectfully ask that you do not start new discussions to promote a giveaway for your book(s). We do have a thread already started where we would love for you to post your giveaway, but please do not start a new one.
- While some "edgy" is ok, our group has decided that if it contains profanity or explicit sexual scenes that you respectfully not recommend it in this group.
- Please don't over-post or be repetitive.
- On a side note: I think it comes across to our members a little better when authors participate in our discussions (without throwing in shameless promotions) and really get to know our members. When our boards are filled with "shameless promotions" our members are less likely to want to try something "new" because they are just tired of seeing it. Then every time a member sees a new author the eye rolling begins and they think "Oh, there's another author promotion." and they end up skipping reading your post all together. So, I encourage you authors to please get involved with the group and share with us your everyday life. We have over 100 authors in our group and can't possibly have all our authors constantly self-promoting. Thank you for your understanding.
- Please check out the Author Guidelines on Goodreads and their suggestions for Author Interaction in groups: https://www.goodreads.com/author/guid....
- All posts/new discussions are subject to deletion upon the sole discretion of the moderators.
- Abuse of these guidelines will result in a ban from Christian Fiction Devourers.

Attn Bloggers:
- We encourage bloggers to share with us their blogs, giveaways, and whatever else you may find exciting, however, we do not want this to become an advertising board for blogs. Please be respectful of other members and don't start a new discussion for every review or giveaway you post on your blog. Instead, add it to the proper discussion topics.
- We respectfully ask that you do not start new discussions to promote your blog or to promote a book giveaway on your blog or pertain only to your blog. (Any discussion doing so will be immediately deleted.)
- All posts/new discussions are subject to deletion upon the sole discretion of the moderators.

Carolyn | 225 comments I can't find the discussion group for site help? this morning I did a discussion search. I entered 'I spy" for the challenge; and ended up with so many postings that had nothing to do with it. then a message comes across that the search engine was not available. so, I tried now, again an hour later and this time; I had a short list of postings, but again I received the same message before I was done viewing; 'search engine is not available at this time' anyone know what's going on?

Carolyn, I'm not sure what's happening there. It sounds very frustrating. Maybe this will help:

Were you looking for our I Spy challenge thread? It is here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

If you were looking for something else, please ask. Perhaps someone may know how to find it.

message 5: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn | 225 comments thanks dear, I found it later in day. I forgot what books I wanted to work on; so got to print off the posting, thanks again Andrea

Always glad to help, Carolyn. I'm glad you found it. Enjoy the books!

message 7: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn | 225 comments Did anyone else NOT get their daily email with current postings this morning. It always starts my day; and haven't received it as of yet.
this is for tuesday, January 23, 2018

message 8: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn | 225 comments it has now arrived in my email

message 9: by Andrea, Hospitality Coordinator (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 6243 comments Mod
GR must have been doing some updates or something, because things went a bit wonky overnight. Glad you got your e-mail, Carolyn.

message 10: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn | 225 comments thanks Andrea, it arrived this morning as usual; so, I think you are right

message 11: by Pam (new)

Pam LaFollette (plaf2018) I'm new to GR and am checking out a few groups. I'm interested in this group because I'm curious to see what books you're reading.

message 12: by Andrea, Hospitality Coordinator (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 6243 comments Mod
Welcome, Pam!

message 13: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn | 225 comments Pam, you will see so many books in the challenges; that will get your creative mind a reading, for sure, welcome.

message 14: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn | 225 comments on occasion; I, as a group member; do not receive the email on daily topics, to my email box. does anyone know why that happens?

message 15: by Beth (last edited May 31, 2018 10:01AM) (new)

Beth (bbulow) | 2403 comments Carolyn, that probably has something to do with your Account Settings, rather than the group specifically. There should be a section for Email, which is where you choose how often and what emails you receive.

Under that section, if you scroll down, there should be a space that you can choose your notification and email preferences for all of the group that you're in.

message 16: by Carolyn (last edited Jun 01, 2018 07:03AM) (new)

Carolyn | 225 comments thanks for suggestion. My settings show email daily postings and there is no rhyme or reason to not just get an email on rare occasions. Maybe, my email server put it into a 'possible spam' folder, go figure. It arrived but, so much later by email then usual

message 17: by Godwin (new)

Godwin (hereigns4e) | 3 comments The guidelines are quite reasonable and should have no problem abiding by it. What about the prayer aspect of the group, how does that work, is there a schedule for that?

message 18: by Loraine (new)

Loraine (librarydiva) | 4436 comments Godwin - We have a monthly prayer thread where people post prayer requests and praises. Here is the link for this months:

Carolyn | 225 comments I can't find an appropriate place to ask this question of the group challenge for kindles. How do we find ebooks that are under 50 pages? most seem to be between 70-100 pages. It didn't seem right to post under ebook challenge sign up.

I saw that you have bookshelves just for Kindle books. If you're wondering about the ebooks on your GR bookshelves, you can change the setting on those shelves so that the number of pages will be shown. If you're wondering how you can find ebooks with fewer than 50 pages at Amazon or elsewhere, I can't help you.

message 21: by Andrea, Hospitality Coordinator (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 6243 comments Mod
Carolyn, I usually do what Alegna suggested: select the setting for the page numbers when I'm looking at "My Books." That makes it pretty easy for me, and I hope it does for you too.

Carolyn | 225 comments this has almost drove me to bonkers. Cheryl, I am not seeing for 2019 Reading Challenges, a mystery 2019 challenge listed. Am I overlooking something? or did suspense replace it?

message 25: by Andrea, Hospitality Coordinator (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 6243 comments Mod
We’ve had a mystery challenge all year: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 6243 comments Mod
If you’re looking for a particular type of challenge, our Crunch Time thread is a good one to look through. In it, I have listed out each challenge with its link in alphabetical order.

message 27: by Carolyn (last edited Jun 12, 2019 04:48AM) (new)

Carolyn | 225 comments thanks Andrea; I've made a notation to see when comments are added to crunch time; as that's the only way I know how to make it a routine show up. so, rather then look for challenges on discussion; I should go to challenges on right sideboard of site. thanks

message 28: by Andrea, Hospitality Coordinator (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 6243 comments Mod
If you do go to challenges on the discussion, just click on the heading of the folder you want to check (for example, 6-month challenges). Sometimes there are more challenges and threads hidden until a folder heading is clicked.

I hope this is helpful! And I try to post comments on the crunch time thread as reminders when challenges are coming close to done or when I do updates there.

message 29: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn | 225 comments thanks Andrea; and also for the reminders so we keep on track; have a great day

Diana Jackson (dianamj) | 2 comments Hello I'm new to this group and finding the isolation of this time quite challenging as a Christian and look forward to receiving emails and joining in with topics. I have always wondered, as a writer, what Christian fiction is, except the obvious like 'From Hinds Feet to High Places' and would love to know if my latest, 'MISSING Past and Present' especially, would classify. There is no violence and certainly the language is clean. As well as facing homelessness after being deserted by her husband, my protagonist Dot searches for meaning in life. As a Jew converted to C of E when she married, she has many conflicting emotions. I would really appreciate feedback here as well as being pointed in the right direction to other Christian fiction of a similar nature. I look forward to being part of your group. Here's a link if you want to check it out: http://viewbook.at/MISSINGPastnPresent

message 32: by Lila (last edited Aug 06, 2020 08:07AM) (new)

Lila Diller | 225 comments Diana, that's a great question! I can't find the definition I was looking for, but I did find this definition of a Christian writer. I personally think that Christian fiction is only the third category, written specifically for the Christian market.

Does your book contain any prayers or thoughts/comments about a character's relationship with Jesus? If not, I would hesitate to call it Christian Ficiton. But that is up for debate.

Is there a 99c sale post to follow or add to?

message 34: by Andrea, Hospitality Coordinator (new)

Hi, Kim. We have a couple of places for sales.

Our Author Promotions thread is a great spot for authors to share about sales or giveaways of their own books.
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Our Kindle Deals & Freebies thread is a good spot for sharing about sales or free books (but not giveaways).
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I hope this helps.

Paula, if you're on the desktop version, there is a "flag" option beneath every comment. That would be the best option, I think, for reporting the issue.

Paula Shreckhise | 238 comments Thankfully it has disappeared! Someone else must have reported it!

Bob Springett | 9 comments G'day Moderators!

I have tried a few times to post about my new novel, offering free files for review purposes.

When I come back, the post has disappeared.

Am I doing something wrong, or is it being deleted as 'inappropriate', or what? I mean no offence, I just want to follow proper procedures that I might not have understood correctly.

message 40: by Andrea, Hospitality Coordinator (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 6243 comments Mod
We have a couple of threads for author promotion. We do not permit new promotional threads to be added, as we try to keep our files neat and tidy.

Here is the link to our Author Intro & Promotions folder.

I hope this will be helpful to you, Bob.

I am noticing slow notifications too. Just got yours eight hours after you posted.

message 46: by Andrea, Hospitality Coordinator (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 6243 comments Mod
Notifications have been wonky for me for at least two weeks now. I get them many hours after someone posts, like Staci mentioned. If there's a thread I want to know asap, I just go to that thread and check the last page of it.

message 47: by Hannah (new)
