Anyone else skip the sex scenes after a while.
I mean, I've read them in the first few books, but after a while, I'm thinking...Ok, I get it. You have great sex. (ok maybe I am a little jealous, but still)

I skip it, to get to the mystery. I love the mystery part, and the other characters.

I've read the books and I listen on Audio, so I fast forward the sex scenes.

While I do skim sex scenes in some books, I read every word of these with Roarke & Eve! :)

Not me, sometimes I think I'd like a playlist of just the love scenes.

I never skip an Eve and Roarke love scene :)

I skip over the love scenes in all all books I read.It doesn't matter if they are contemporary or HR.

It depends on the book.

If it's a badly written boring scene I skim past it. If the author basically repeats the same scene with different characters I skim past it. If it seems to have nothing to do with the story I skim past it.

If it's a unique twist on sex (doing it in trees, or in those hanging silks that Cirque de Sole seem to use I will read it since it's more interesting to 'see' something different.

I think it depends. Sometimes if I am on a gazliionth re-read/listen, I will skim over them. Some sex scenes I am not a big fan of. The only one I can think of in In Death is the violent one in (wow, I need a full re-read of the series since I can't remember the book off the top of my head)...after the fight with Webster. That one bothered me the first time, and it still does so I will almost always skim over it. In other books, sometimes it is just a sex scene for the sake of a sex scene and I will skip over it.

I don't skip them! Especially with Eve and Roarke lol. The love scenes feel few and far between with the newer books so I'll enjoy every pages of it.

You are right but Roarke and Eve have been marry for over four years and everyone know after the first year sex start going down.

During the first read through I didn't skip anything at all, but during my second and third reads I just skimmed over the sex scenes.

I don't skip the sex scenes in any of the In Death books. They are not graphic and they do fit into the story and Eve and Roarke's moods. Sometimes it is because she needs to feel connected to him after a particularly rough day, sometimes it just happens, or sometimes it's to make up after a fight. It let's us see them at their most vulnerable. Plus, since I can't have sex with Roarke I'm glad Eve is getting to it.

She IS Lucky. I did read them the first time. And they are very tasteful. Very hot. It just felt sometimes it was the same. Lol.

I tend to skim them when I read, but I'm listening to them now and don't fast forward so I'm getting the full effect. Like you said, Mama, they're tasteful yet hot, so they're perfectly written. ;P

There is a bit of variety sometimes. I don't know which book it is in but there was one time in the swimming pool and they nearly drown themselves.

I don't skip the sex scenes between Eve and Roarke because the books are not saturated with sex scenes. There are other things going on. I do in some books though if the sex scenes are too graphic or lack imagination or simply a repeat of the same things over and over.

That, and they're not just sex. One of them always does something sweet and sentimental that I just love.

I tend to skip them. I'm not big into sex scenes, especially with all the metaphoric language of waves and pushing over cliffs, etc. I'm in it for the mystery, the humor, and the character development. I know what happens during sex.

It's not that I dont like them, its that I want to get to the mystery quicker.

You prefer the mystery part? LOL! Exact opposite of me. I'm not saying I don't love the mystery, I just prefer the characters and the humor and, yes, the passion.

Though, Brittany does have a point about the pushing over cliffs...

Well, the characters are part of it. Their actions make you love the love scenes even more. I love all the character interactions.
My favorite parts are when Eve tears in to them in interrogations and rips them apart!

If I am doing a full series listen to my audio I tend to tune out some of them. If I have taken an In Death vacation for a month or two I will listen.

I do skim because - jealous, jealous, jealous infinity 😖

Skip it?? Roarke is too delicious to pass up. On occasion I have skimmed only if the mystery is so riveting that I want to get back to it ASAP.

There are books in which I skim or skip the sex scenes - but the In Death books aren't among them! The scenes with Roarke & Eve always feel like a part of the story - in other words - not written just to be writing sex. They're an intimate part of the story and written in to where it's a natural culmination of whatever is happening at the time.

And I agree, Randi...Roarke is just too delicious to pass up one single word of any scene he's part of! lol

All that is true, yet the jealousy & envy can take ya there & be just to much! LOL

I'm taking my first reading of the In Death books very seriously, so I read every word! *sigh*

I don't have a problem with a good erotic read that has a lot of hot scene every once in awhile. However, I never think of Roarke and Eve's sex scenes as gratuitous or over the top. They always feel appropriate to me. I read every word and picture me as Eve. 😊

It seems to be a matter of taste. People are all over the map on this question. I admit that sometimes I do and some times I dont skip the in death sex scenes.

I sometimes will read a few pages of it but then skip ahead to see how long the scene lasts. I personally though feel that these scenes are getting repetitive. I generally skim them if anything.

In the beginning, I thought the scenes beautiful and sensual. Now, after 50 books (35 of them I read three times), I do see the repetition. That was inevitable.

lol Lauren! No need to duck for cover. The different opinions on every aspect of this series is part of what keeps our discussions fresh, interesting, and so much fun.

If I included the NR books & all those sex scenes, I'd probably agree. I'm only considering the In Death sex scenes, and I never tire of those. Maybe my infatuation with Roarke has something to do with that...lol!

You don't have to duck. There are some authors that I skip or skim over the sex scenes. I guess it depends on my mood.

I guess it depends on my mood, sometimes it seems the sex scenes are a bit over the top so I just only half listen to it while doing other things (don't fast forward, always seem to go too far and then back up LOL). Other times I enjoy the love they share and overall I don't think the scenes are put in just to have a sex scene, they always come at a specific time in the plot.

Part of me says they have it too good, but that is part of the fantasy of a novel. On the other hand, Robb doesn't go overboard with her descriptions unlike other romance writers (view spoiler)[ the throbbing member variety (hide spoiler)]LOL

I've been known to skip some sex/love scenes in other books, but NEVER and EVE and ROARKE! I love the murder mysteries, but I also love the relationship development with Eve and Roarke. The dynamic between them is awesome. I love that they fight as much as they make love. LOL!

See I'm on the other side, I wish caution was thrown to the wind and that the sex scenes were more explicit. I'm not exactly asking for Anita Blake level sex scenes, but my preference would lean more towards Harper Bliss and her style of writing.

Now anything involving Trina on the other hand, I CANNOT STAND HER, I wish that character had never existed.

Another example would be during Dark in Death (view spoiler)[where Eve already uncovered the killer at the halfway point of the book. It felt dragged on and pretty boring and made me skip straight to the next chapter. (hide spoiler)]

Read through some of the comments and seems like most would prefer a little steamier sex scenes. While I do love more explicit sex scenes in some stories, I'm perfectly fine with the way their written in the In Death series. In truth, I'd rather it be left to my imagination because I don't think any author could write a sex scene to live up to my image of Roarke! LOL!

With my twisted imagination, I could probably make something worthy of your challenge.

You know something that I may skip on re-reads is some of the more gruesome things. Like descriptions or some of the actual attacks.

Yeah that's one of the reasons why I never read Thankless because from what I hear a lot of the book was in the villains POV.

That was a hard one and I do skip some in that one. Another one for me was Kindred. The first death is the one that is most horrible.
