'Jane?' The lights came on in the most annoying way possible. 'Jane, it's long past time to wake up.'

Jane pulled the covers over her head.

'Jane, come on. There isn't that much daylight this time of year.' Owl sounded tired. Whatever. Jane was tired, too. Jane was always tired. No matter how much sleep she got, it was never enough.

I really enjoyed this chapter for an odd reason. I felt it was the beginnings of Jane becoming...a regular person. IDK if that sounds right. I mean, she's turning into an annoying adolescent (which is great! Just not for Owl, lol).

I think this chapter also shows (view spoiler)

Beth (rosewoodpip) | 54 comments Yeah, I thought it was good, too. It's been four years since she got to the ship, and there are stresses showing up, and not just psychologically, the cussing and adolescent brattiness. I think she needs to escape from the planet soonish. The non-food supplies are dwindling to nothing, and the shuttle's propulsion and life-support systems are degrading and eventually it won't be able to support life in space....

Harryo | 13 comments Is this the chapter when she pulls a runner and falls into the trash pit? I wanted to spank her behind. It reminded me so much of that awful Harry Potter book (Order of the Phoenix? In which Harry was unbearable). That was the only Jane chapter I didn't luuurve.

It is. But I didn't get angry with her, per se. I was more...interested in the person she was becoming and her ways of acting out. Jane 23 would have never risked Owl's wrath in the way Jane did at this age. And at the same time, I have to wonder what the...crap she was living in and living on was doing to her.
