I nominate The Twisted Heart by Rebecca Gowers this is from the 2010 list and I havent read the author before.

When Kit, a work-obsessed literature student, goes on a whim to a dance class she is hoping simply to take her mind off her studies. Soon it looks like Joe, a stranger she meets there, may tempt her to put her books aside and live a little. But when Kit uncovers a mystery involving the young Charles Dickens and the slaughter of a prostitute known as The Countess, she is sucked back in to the world of books, and discovers how Dickens became tangled up with this horrendous crime.
Sounds interesting!

Val I nominate Foreign Bodies by Cynthia Ozick
Foreign Bodies by Cynthia Ozick.

I bought this about a year ago and it has been sitting on my kindle, unread, ever since.
It is loosely based on The Ambassadors by Henry James, but with a female protagonist and a completely different Europe, two world wars after James' setting. I don't think it is necessary to have read Henry James beforehand, his style can be a bit heavy going, but it might add to this book to look up a plot summary.

Susan I would be happy to read either of these. Foreign Bodies has languished on my kindle for some time and The Twisted Heart sounds interesting.

Jen | 116 comments Hi there, if it isn't too late for nominations I'll suggest When I Lived in Modern Times, the 2000 winner.

Val Penny, I can see two versions of the poll for the July archive read and I don't know which one to vote on. I assume that you must have set it up twice because Goodreads was running slow and the first one did not appear, but it would be less confusing if you could delete one of them please.

☮Karen I think I voted on the second version, then noticed that everyone else had used the first so tried to undo the vote, but don't know if it worked. Sorry.

there should only be one of each poll now - if you dont think it took your vote Karen do try again! sorry - it was a computer delay so got sent twice.

Val The winner is:
Foreign Bodies by Cynthia Ozick Foreign Bodies by Cynthia Ozick Foreign Bodies by Cynthia Ozick
(The UK and US covers are different)

This book has divided Goodreads reviewers: some love it, some hate it, some don't get the point of it. It may lead to a lively group discussion.
