Raevyn, I'm a stay at home wife and mother in the Appalachian mountains, not many people would ever consider me a feminist but I believe in everything you just said. True feminism is striving for equal rights, pay and respect without stepping on anybody else. Most women who had a part in forming this country (U.S.A) in the early years are better role models for feminism than the women who profess to be feminists today. A woman that stands up for what is right in the eyes of God and struggles to feed and care for her family is a far better role model than a woman that marches in D.C. with a fake vagina on her head and screams obscenities at the top of her lungs. True feminism is deciding for yourself what you value and believe in and not being bullied into accepting less. True feminism is also admitting that what you once believed may have been wrong because you have been shown something better. Welcome to womanhood! We need more levelheaded independent women.

Exactly! I don't think it was always a bad thing. Modern people just took it too far.
Adding to the thread because it's been a while:
I wish there was a balance. I wish we lived in a world where women were equal and well-represented in media--but where the unborn were safe and marriage was santicified.

Raevyn, that is my prayer too. Hopefully in your lifetime you will see it happen. Keep being the change in what you do, say, and will accept from others. Maybe it will become the new trend in your circle of friends. If we all do the same hopefully it will become a movement and movements are the beginning of any real change. Be the Rosa Parks of your generation, after-all, she just refused to get up and give her seat to a white person because she was tired. Look at her now, an icon of the civil rights movement. Most people aren't aware of the fact that they are changing history, they are just doing what is right and what comes naturally to them. Write about it and keep speaking up because you are being heard. You are a strong young woman and I am proud of you.
One more thought:
I don't consider myself a feminist anymore, but I also don't identify completely with the opposite movement (I forget what it's called). I don't support all men OR all women; I support people who are good, and kind, and who follow God--no matter what their gender is.

You are a woman in the real everyday world and a true Christian who is more concerned with people and living a life filled with kindness than one filled with labels and strife.
THank you for this post. I do not agree with abortion at all.

Abortion: Is murder. I always knew that. In fact, the reason I became disillusioned with modern feminism is the heavy focus on being pro-choice.
Homosexuality: Technically a sin--but these people should still be treated with respect. God still cares about them.
Rape and domestic violence: These are the issues I am most in line with feminists about. They're evil acts that should be ended.
Fictional women/women in media: Yes, they should have more positive representation. But a romantic heroine isn't automatically sexist.
Breastfeeding: If possible, find a more private place. But if you can't cover up, and your baby is crying/hungry, what are you supposed to do? I support it in those cases.
Discussion is welcome. Just keep it respectful.
