Nico used to be considered a "nice" girl, someone who always helped others and was always there as a shoulder to cry on. After her accident, she woke up in the hospital feeling completely betrayed, not only by the person who caused it, but by the world as well. She used to be a firm believer that whatever you put into the world you got out, yet she was dealt a bad hand. She felt that someone who lived her life with nothing but positive experiences would have a perfect life but unfortunately her life, the one she desperately wanted for herself, was stolen from her. The moment she woke up in the hospital bed, staring at the angry red scarring that ran the length of her leg, she knew the world was not as perfect as she thought. Her sunny demeanor was quickly replaced with anger, fear, and cold indifference. She keeps her feelings buried deep down so that no one will ever see that they got to her.

Nico grew up in a small coastal town. It was the type of town where everyone knew everyone, and it wasn't always a bad thing. Her parents were new money, a successful boat builder and a real estate agent. Nico was beloved by all and was considered to be a true small-town sweetheart. She had everything she could ever want--adoring family, charming boyfriend, a small group of friends that always supported her. There was absolutely nothing to dislike about her life and she was grateful. Unfortunately, there was another person in town who thought exactly the same about their life and became furious when it was taken away from them.

The one thing Nico will never speak of is her accident. It's difficult to avoid in initial conversation for the simple reason that it left her with not only a partially disfigured face (a deep scar over her right eye), but it also caused her to lose complete function of her left leg. Her parents think they know the entire story, but she hasn't told a soul how the accident really occurred. It is her darkest secret, one she intends to take with her to the grave. Once she joined the program they of course replaced her leg with state of the art technology. The only reason she joined was to have access to their advanced medicine, but due to her hand to hand skills (which she learned in order to look good to colleges), she found a new sense of purpose. Nico perfectly fit into the combat program and quickly became one of the top trainees. After years of long nights and endless practice, she earned the title of "trainer". It is her proudest accomplishment, more so than the title of "Homecoming Queen" from those years wasted in high school. It's taken some time, but Nico has finally found the person she was always meant to be--and no one will ever get the best of her again.
