Hello everyone!
Very BIG welcome :)

I'm racing off to work now but will be back later on to post some getting to know you questions and housekeeping stuff

I've just sent you all friend requests to those I haven't already got as friends, and also PMs with our team thread so hopefully we'll see you all soon :)

I am friends with around half of you ***Waves*** but some of you are 'new friends in waiting' :)

I am looking forwards to spending time with all of you sharing our love of books.

Till later...

message 15: by Chava (new)

Chava | 1522 comments Hi all,
I am Chava from Melbourne, Australia. I will be travelling a bit between Oz and the US over the next 2 months, so replies might take a bit longer than usual until halfway June, but so excited to be here!!!!

Gavin Abdollahi (gavthereader) | 478 comments Hi!
I'm Gavin from the Philippines, am 14 years old, and especially love fantasies, thrilling mysteries, dystopian stories, and basically anything that'll tug on my emotions.
Glad to meet you all!

message 17: by Leslie Ann (new)

Leslie Ann | 941 comments Hi, I am Leslie from Colorado, USA. I am going to be traveling to the UK from May 28 till Jun 13th but I will have my cell so I should still be able to check in just not daily. Looking forward to this.

message 18: by Kazen (last edited Apr 19, 2017 10:42PM) (new)

Kazen Hello everyone - I'm so excited to be your co-captain!

I'm Kazen, an American living in Japan. I'm a medical interpreter, helping Japanese doctors and English-speaking patients communicate. The hours can be all over the place but I get to read on my commute, yea! Shoutouts to my fellow health professional Chava (whenever I read a psych book I think of you!) and Lisa - it's great to be on your team again!

As far as books go I love romance, urban fantasy, non-fiction (especially medical, natch) and a random sampling of everything else. I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you and soaking up your recommendations along the way! :D

PS - I think I'm friends or have a friend request in with everyone, but if I missed you yell at me! ;)

With you and Chava traveling we'll have lots of team members jumping oceans! Using your cell to check in should be just fine but I want to give you a heads up to avoid the Goodreads app. It has caused such problems in the past that it's even called out in the rules, hehe. Goodreads through a browser works just fine, and I've done that myself in the past, so I'm sure things will work out. So happy to have you with us! :)

Hello, Gavin, nice to meet you! I'm a dystopia fan but I've gotten away from them lately - any recent reads that you could recommend? :)

I see in your profile that you've worked in medicine as well - huzzah allied health professionals that love to read! Just the kind of people I like to have on my team in a challenge. ~nodnodnod~ ;)

Looks like I'll be away in the middle of June - only going over the ditch to New Zealand for a fortnight - Will play it by ear - will have Internet access most of the time - except for at least one night where hubby wants be to spend the night in a remote location in a glass cabin with no internet, TV, radio or anything!!!! Apparently it will be fun getting back to nature!! And yes you read right - I said glass cabin - glass floor, walls and roof. They're called pure pods!

Kazen!! You are so funny. Everytime I hear anything about Japan, I think of you! :) So nice to be on your team again. I was just thinking about you recently, wondering if you were still living in Japan.

I look forward to connecting with everyone!!

Hi Leslie,
*waves excitedly* So nice to connect with you. I am rather excited that I am going to visit the US for the first time ever (!!) in just over a week. I'm going for 9 days to a town near Seattle, WA. I will then be back for 12 days in Australia, then back 9 days, back 12 days Oz, back 9 days US and then back to Oz for an unclear amount of time, then back to US for a week to either Ohio or Florida, then in 6 months time I go again, but not sure where.
Crazy amount of flying!

To you Americans, do I need to be afraid of bears or are toddlers with guns enough to worry about (apparently 21 people get killed each year by 'armed toddlers'...love my American colleagues' scare tactics).

Let's see... The latest dystopian book I loved was This Savage Sing, though, it isn't really dystopian, but feels like one

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6399 comments Hi to all my old and new book reading friends.

I am Australian but presently away in Europe on a wonderful cruise. But will be back home in time for Tower Teams V. Can't wait.

I love the name of our team!

Sally, that rustic cabin in the woods sounds... romantic, (wink) or dangerous, not sure which, LOL...

Kazen Chava wrote: "Kazen!! You are so funny. Everytime I hear anything about Japan, I think of you! :) "

I recently read a clinical psych(iatry) book published by an Australian university - if I thought of you one time I thought of you a hundred! Hehe. Yup, still in Japan - no plans to leave the country just yet. ;)

That is so much flying and so many frequent flier miles you'll be racking up! Who knows, maybe you'll get enough to have an awesome upgrade for the last fight home. Or maybe a vacation, if you could bear to get on a plane again after all that! ;)

message 31: by Leslie Ann (new)

Leslie Ann | 941 comments Chava what a crazy amount of traveling!!! Toddlers and bears oh my! I would be more worried about the crazy drivers especially in Colorado! We tend to speed. Australia is on my bucket list, I really want to go to the Aussie open to watch some tennis.

Viji | 389 comments Hi,

This is Viji from India and I am delighted to be with you all in this team. I think I am the grandma of this team! hehehehe! I love needlework and reading - in that order.

I am new to this challenge. From the rules, I understand that we have to read books from 4th May onwards and points are awarded to the books read. Do we have any specific tasks/genres for which we have to read books or the books are of our own choice? I do not want to pull the team back because of my ignorance. If any of you could explain how books are to be read for this challenge, it would be a great help. Thanks.

Happy reading to all of you!

message 35: by Kazen (last edited Apr 20, 2017 01:42AM) (new)

Kazen Hi Viji, it's wonderful to have you!

Viji wrote: "Do we have any specific tasks/genres for which we have to read books or the books are of our own choice?"

The great thing about Tower Teams is that every book that meets the challenge standards (over 100 pages, not a picture book, etc.) counts for points. :) Longer books garner more points - the details can be found here in the All About Tower Teams thread.

There may be challenges or fun things thrown in later where particular characteristics are called for (genres, items on the cover, etc.) but they're not mandatory. So know that as long as your books meet the basic rules (most do) you can read whatever makes you happy, yea! :)

I just got home from work and I'm so excited to see all of your posts. Yay!

If you haven't done so already, please create a shelf for your tower teams book and then post a link here to your shelf.
Tip Knowing about Sticky Shelves can help to keep your shelf at the top of your list ;)

The great thing about Tower Teams is that you can read ANYTHING* and even pull out those doorstoppers because big books get more points so it is not necessarily an advantage to only read small books like in other challenges
*Must be over 100 pages, or for children's books over 25,000 words. Graphic novels don't count

I am from Sydney, Australia and I have a 4.5 year old and a 1.5 year old. I also started my own Company earlier this year so I am crazy busy right now, but hoping things calm down a bit soon :o
I read 2-3 books per week on my commute and also audiobooks while cooking, cleaning, gardening and at night when I can't sleep as I'm a terrible insomniac.
I've been a mod here now for 4 years and I love this group and love TT and can't wait to get started with you all :)

Kazen No kids here, so I can be auntie for all the kids and grandkids from afar! I will give them books and sweets and only hand the kids back once they are properly hyper. It's written in the Auntie Code. ;)

Thank you very much, Kazen, for the clarification. I have a bit of difficulty in understanding the tasks! Sometimes, I flounder a bit to find the suitable books for some tasks and need help. That's why I wanted to check. I feel very happy to be with you all. I am sure to come across lot of good books which I would not have known/read. Looking forward to the D-Day!

message 50: by Viji (new)

Viji | 389 comments Sorry, I found that I have not expressed myself correctly. I do not have kids but am old enough to be a grandma (63 years). But I am glad to know you all and your family. I reciprocate Kazen.

I am very happy to be a part of such a friendly and jolly team. It is always nice to be with younger people and I hope to learn a lot from you all. Pl. recommend to me good books that you all have read. I have not read many non-fiction books as I do not have a good library at Pondicherry, which is a small town. I read whatever books I could lay my hands on irrespective of the genre but not many in the Horror and Contemporary/YA Romance genres. I read these two genres only for challenges!!!
