Given what Fletcher did for Cordelia and Maria, was he actually a hero of some sort? Did his attempt to remake Maria into his dead daughter undermine what he did for them?

Angela | 155 comments I felt icky about the whole thing. It seems like he wanted a life that had slipped away from him, but he was never going to be happy again was he. Not really. It was all a lie. I never felt like he was a hero. He did try to help Cordelia and Maria, but it was for his own ends and once we knew the full story you could see how it could only end in tragedy.

Veronica (readingonthefly) | 694 comments I didn't think he was a hero but I did feel sorry for him. The only thing he had in his life that he truly loved was his daughter and when she died he became mired in his own grief. What he did to Maria was for his own benefit, yes, but it also benefited Maria and Cordelia...up to a point. They all got something out of it but, yes, it was never going to work out in the long run.

I agree with both of you. On the surface, what he did seemed admirable because he took a lot of risks in taking them in. But, it was more self serving than selfless.
