Biblio Curious (bibliocurious) | 17 comments I'm still gathering my thoughts about this project. But I'm insanely excited for it!!

All the well-known epics will be at the party. Gilgamesh, Beowulf...

Illiad, Odyssey, Aenid --Is one more representative for this type of project? Should one classify as Greek, the other Rome?

Japan's Genji, Heiki

India's Ramayana and Mahabharata

China's Journey to the West (which includes Monkey King because he's got some goods!!), Romance of Three Kingdoms

The Vikings are bringing their Saga of the Volsungs

The Wallflowers are the Middle Eastern Epics. They rarely get invited to these things. So they'll be relaxing on the beach with their own Hookah and Beautifully Designed Yurts. (Beach Tent)

Kashmir Region: Tales from the Kathasaritsagara "Ocean of the Sea Stories"
Turkish: The Book of Dede Korkut: A Turkish Epic, composed during their migration.
Persia's National Epic: Shahnameh: The Persian Book of Kings

I introduced the details in today's Blog Post. If you have a blog and want to join in Blog-Style

Here's a link to my Book List in Progress: basically a re-hash of the books listed here. But could get expanded on. (Mainly adaptations, modern retellings and foundational myths)

If any of you think of books that can qualify, please recommend them.

If a country doesn't have an Epic, should their foundational myths represent them?

If you've already read some of them, feel free to link your reviews here, recommended translations or general chatter, we're at a party afterall!

Bloggers:
If you have a blog, feel free to mention it here or in the comments on my blog. You can link my site to your blog and borrow the postcard on my site. (Bloggers, do you want me to make an html box thingy for it? Should I link participating bloggers on my site? Would this be interesting as a blogger's challenge?)

Wonderful, Biblio. I'll look for the group. I was just looking at The Book of Dede Korkut last week, wondering where the right place would be to place it chronologically. Seems it was written down roughly 1300 to 1500, but I imagine the events it describes are much more ancient.
Along with Dede Korkut I was looking at The Battle of Chibi (Red Cliffs): Selected and Translated from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, which is a modern retelling of selections from The Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
I plan to read at least Gilgamesh this year.

Biblio Curious (bibliocurious) | 17 comments The Battle of Chibi sounds great!! That could be a wonderful abridged version of the doorstopper, Three Kingdoms. Perhaps you can introduce it in the Schedule's thread?

Pat the Book Goblin Are these readings in this group or is it a separate club?

Biblio Curious (bibliocurious) | 17 comments Hi Patrick!

It became a separate group, you're welcome to join. We're reading the Iliad right now and I'm slooowly working my way through Shahnameh: The Persian Book of Kings

Pat the Book Goblin I've read the Iliad and the odyssey, metamorphosis by Ovid, and Gilgamesh and Beowulf. I'm really excited to read more ancient texts! I have the Aeneid but haven't read it yet.

Biblio Curious (bibliocurious) | 17 comments I also have the Aeneid and am eagerly waiting to read it. Metamorphosis & Beowulf are someday soon reads. ^.^ The Odyssey too, of course!
