Bookcrazy ~ So what? I'm still a rock star~ | 1098 comments Mod
This will be fun to discuss since it's coming out as a movie soon. Tell me your thoughts!! I really liked it, especially the amazing twist! (Which I won't give away xD)

Cordelianne I did not like the dramatic twist, but it surprised me nonetheless! I did love the pictures and everything surrounding the book :)
I just felt the storyline was a bit flat sometimes.

I agree with that, but I also think that this was one of those books less about the storyline and more about just the characters. I liked the twist because it made the book unusual and less cliche.

I have to agree with Cordelianne - I felt that the story line felt flat sometimes, and it didn't live up to the expectations I had of the book overall. I read The Sun Is Also A Star (which is also by Nicola Yoon) before Everything, Everything, and I loved that one! I just felt that The Sun is Also a Star was a lot better in terms of characters and storyline whereas Everything, Everything lacked depth in both for me. I also agree with Cordelianne when she said the book was not a good representation of the illness Maddie struggles with, as it hardly seems to touch on it despite the fact that the novel is supposed to center around it. I feel like I will definitely be in the minority for not loving Everything, Everything, but I promise I tried really hard!

I still really want to see the movie though, hahah! It looks well done and true to the novel.

I definitely agree that I liked The Sun is Also a Star a lot better than Everything Everything. It definitely was deeper at least. That said, I found EE to be a really enjoyable and unique read :) even with the boyfriend cliche haha. (view spoiler)

I know what you mean! I did love The sun is also a star a lot more, but I did think that was a bit cliche as well. One thing I love about Nicola Yoon is that she does use diverse characters :)

Naoé | 361 comments Here's my review

I've no words to express how much I loved this book I read it in one sitting and it was so freaking amazing
I heard a lot of really good things about this book but I didn't expect to love it as much as I did

This story is so touching so beautiful so beautifully written the characters feel so real the romance is just perfect
Madeline is the kind of character who hid such a strong personality her desire to live is so inspiring she is willing to lose everything so she can experiment simple things
Olly is one of the cutest love interest I have ever meet in a contemporary YA he is so pure and funny and understanding
This story touch me the ending made me cry a lot and it will stay with me for a long time
Madeline is a Japanese/African American girl who lived inside her home all of her live and reading from her perspective was an amazing things. I also realise with this book that I need to read more diverse books and this one was an amazing way for a start

I recommend this book to absolutely everyone it's one of my favourite book this year and reading it was just awesome
I'm gonna say that one more time I loved this book so much I'll keep it close to my heart now and forever

Yay!! I'm glad you enjoyed it so much, Naoe! I definitely agree with you that diverse characters are always better to read about, and Nicola Yoon (coming from her own background) is amazing at crafting diverse characters! If you loved this so much, you should definitely read The Sun Is Also a Star.

Daly I had mixed feelings on this book. I guessed from the beginning about the plot twist. But overall I found this to be an enjoyable read! I loved the character diversity and development!

Ramona (monakersch) | 67 comments I agree with Cordelianne.. I liked the characters and the overall storyline, but the plot twist made everything seem too easy, sort of unrealistic. In the beginning I was also really annoyed by the short chapters, but I got used to that the more I read. This was a very quick read for me.

I just watched the movie trailer, but I'm not sure that I'll enjoy the movie. In my opinion it doesn't seem to be that true to the novel. There were many little things in the trailer that were different from the book. I know that it's not easy to stay true to a book when making a movie and I don't generally get upset when the movie isn't exactly like the book. It's just that I was picturing it completely different in my mind while reading it...

I know what you mean about the plot twist... that definitely means they didn't have to deal in the book, which is pretty unrealistic.

Really? I didn't realize. I might go see it anyway, because I wasn't attached enough to the book that I'd mind if the movie was different.

Idk.. that's probably just my opinion. But you are right - I wasn't that attached to the book either, so it wouldn't be too bad. It's just that I usually notice many details and I can't stop myself from comparing those little things..

Oh that's true... I agree. I used to watch the old Baywatch tv show and now they've come out with a comedy movie and while it looks funny I think all the little changes as you said might make it annoying.
