NZ Intermediate School Librarians discussion

This was one of those books that just sat on display with very little interest - obviously some promotion needed! Humourous stories aren't usually my thing, but this one is cleverly written and fast paced, with loads of action and amusing references to greek mythology (which shouldn't require any prior knowledge to still be funny), and a nice underlying story about the main character's desire to do everything possible to protect his ailing mother and save his family home. It verges on the ridicualous in places, and some of the gags are a bit repetitive, but I'm sure the kids who are into funny stories will lap it up. Probably too many voices for a read aloud (unless the reader was particularly good at voices!)

I'm trying it with my Percy Jackson loving readers, who seem to be liking it.
