Jennifer I acutally had just thought of this and thought,What if she didn't win..what would of happened, would Maxton die or would America go back with Aspen,or would Celest die or would America die? Would there be another book if they didn't get together, AH SO MANY QUESTIONS!?!

Rachel idk what would happen if maxon didn't chose america. but i also think there wasn't another way to end the series. i mean how could this whole series be about a girl in a competition that SHE LOSES? plus all the page time of maxon's character development wouldnt have mattered anymore.
either there would have to be another book with who knows what happens or america wouldve had to die at the end of the one for her not to be chosen i think

Jacque I don't think she would have gone back to Aspen. She had pretty much already decided he was a brother. I think she would probably take her couple of weeks to cry and be sad and then move on. America, however fickle she can be, is pretty strong and resilient.

Ilana i actually thought about that a bit in the hopes that maybe we would get a minor twist before ending up where we wanted to. i think that what i would have expected is that she would NOT have gone back to Aspen since he was safe and was what she was before - not as strong and willing to settle. i think that what we would have seen is that she would have joined the good rebels - in the hopes that she could help restore the country into something good that people would want to be a part of. I think that we would have seen her come into her own as a power of authority and i don't know if her story would have needed a romantic ending.

Granted - i also think that part of this story would have either been as a result of Maxon dying or of him choosing someone else, and being in complete agreement with America's choice to join the rebels since it would have helped him as well in the long run.

Maya I don't know. I might have been a little upset. I wasn't totally invested in the characters, so I really wouldn't have been completely satisfied if America had won or lost. But I agree with RayRay. There really wasn't another way to end the series without being utterly anticlimactic.

Dramapuppy I would have been disappointed because I ship her with Maxon, but I would have been happy to see Cass stray away from the predictable plot.

Annaw I've thought about this forever. O.K. Here it goes, so America would move to Italy because she couldnt stand to be around the sadness of what couldve been with Maxon and Aspen and her father being dead. There she would become an ambassador with other courntries. Maxon would marry Kriss. So one day she has to go back to Ilea to do ambassador things and try to makwe an alliance right now she is about 50 and is super popular and rich in Italy. So she goes back and sees Maxon and Kriss and they're 3 kids. So shes all sad because she vowed never to love again because of all the pain and sorrow. She goes to say hello then decides to do so after lunch. But while shes eating she has a severe heart attack like her father and they couldnt revive her so they decide to have a funeral for her in the palace. So before shes being buried he tells her dead body he never stopped loving her and made a big mistake so he cries and leaves a single white rose on her casket. The sad thing is though after he told her to leave he went to her room to try to stop her because he realized what he did wrong but she was already gone. So everyday he wears a hankercheif with her perfume on it and keeps the ring that was supposed to be hers in his pocket. And Kriss never finds out and Maxon is forever guilty he never ran after her. He dies at 60 because of stress and depression and none knows why he was deppressed but i'm sure we can all guess.

Horrible, right thats why im glad that didnt happen if you liked that please comment me

Yesenia Gomez If America didn't win I would be so angry and hate Maxon! He promised that he would choose her and even said that he loved her. There's many things that upsets me with Maxon but that would be my biggest one. I also would think that this trilogy was a big waste of time. The whole point is basically her journey of becoming a one and loving and choosing Maxon.

Rachel Well that was creative! Really really sad and depressing but creative

Yesenia Gomez I don't think it's sad or depressing it's just my opinion.

Rachel No sorry thats not what i meant i actually agree with you. I meant to reply to Annaw's alternate storyline.

Dayum. You have a lot of spare time on your hands.

Creative tho

William O I would have been sad but I would have been happy for Maxon and Kriss, but then there would have been no point in writing the series in the first place... But anyway that didn't happen, so yes I am very glad Maxon chose America and not Kriss.

Whoa. Nice thoughts. I agree with you to a certain extent, but it seems sort of cheesy and romanticized that America happens to get a heart attack at the palace. I feel like she would go home but Maxon just wouldn't call her because he couldn't cheat on Kriss. Then America would die a couple years later and maybe get sent back to the palace.

Emma I actually may have liked it because it wouldn't have been another one of those "girl-always-ends-up-with-guy" things. Most books always have them together in the end, and this one would have been different. I'm happy either way though

I'd never thought about that finale of the book. It would be so stupid, because she lose and Aspen and Maxon. It's sad. Even if America deceased , it would be smarter than her lose. I mean, all that tests, she pass and Maxon feelings to her. Actually, if Aspen wasn't so arrogant and unreasonable, when he told Mer his thought about the Selection, they could get married and live happy ever after. Anyway, the final book of "The Selection" trilogy called "The One" so ... it's already known, who is the winner )) p.s. if Kriss won i'd hated Maxon forever and throw my book in the window -_-

Natasha First I'd think What?!?! Why?!?! I had to deal with her stupidity for her to not win? Second: of course she didn't win, she was horrible to Maxon. And 3rd, it would be sad, not getting Maxon or Aspen so I would hate the book if she didn't win.

Elyse I would be extremely pissed and angry.

Rosalynn Death. Death would happen. It would kill my soul and I would angrily hurl the book out of the window of a car on the highway and watch with grim satisfaction as it got run over by other cars. But that's not how it ended so yay!

gina She does win. Its obvious she wins. Maxon loves her and actually has a connection with her then the rest of the girls. Also she has to win. What kinds of series would that be if she doesn't.

kayla tulop That would've been a good ending, but then there would have to be a 4 book because we already know that they loved each other deeply. Like I wish there was some sort of twist. Like I wish Maxon would've picked Kriss but then stuff would happen and he would find America and get back together with him like if he hadn't chosen America then yah I would be disappointed but knowing that there would be another book would've made me happy, like it would've been exciting to read a book like that.

message 23: by Dee (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dee That would suck- big time. All her efforts would be a waste.

Dramapuppy Rie-chan wrote: "That would suck- big time. All her efforts would be a waste."

Well not a complete waste. She earned a bunch of money for her family. It was a great experience. When she first entered she didn't even want to win.

zinikornis Well, if she didn't win, I would kill myself. Haha, no, of course:D
I always knew she will win, and Maxon loves her so I don't know why wouldn't she win.
But, for example, America finded out that Maxon loves Kriss, and he will pick that girl. I'm not sad. I'm just confused and I'm thinking: "What a grandiose book! It's going to make you sad." I didn't think there will be so big twist.
But, even if it's a twisting story, I wouldn't like it so much as I do now. I usually don't like sad stories. (Except for Fault In Our Stars, I LOVE that!)

NaKayla I think I would throw the book, then pace my room until I can get my head wrapped around, then probably continue to finish the book, then write fanfiction ;)

AbigailDenyse01 I would like murder aspen( because that is who she would probs b with) then I would give maxon a lecture about his bad choice then I would see a therapist because I was talking to people who are not actually there.

Samantha I would've wanted Maxon to die at the end during the attack if he actually didn't marry America (A little evil but I know many people thinking that)

message 29: by Christine (last edited Jul 30, 2014 02:13PM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Christine If america wasn't chosen in the end, I would actually laugh and applauded Kiera Cass. America not winning would be upsetting still, but it also could be a interesting plot twist.

message 30: by Nate (new) - rated it 2 stars

Nate haha america you took to long to choose, move it or lose it the early bird gets the worm you lost it suck it

Christine Haha Exactly ^^

Amphitrite She did take too long I mean the choice was obvious either a cute, charming, wealthy, awesome, and slightly funny prince or a jerk who dumped her but now wants her back now that he can provide for her. Anyways I would just jump into the book smack Maxon and America and push them toward each other. Then I will dress up as a priest and make them say their I do's. If they don't say the I do's to getting married I will simply ask if they want candy, that will make them say I do for sure

Noor Kill anyone near me....................What? We were all thinking it!
JK

Amphitrite I like what Ingrid said but come on obviously America would win all she had to do was say the word and the Selection would have ended. She would only have lost if she chose to go home but nobody in there right mind would want to that besides it was a pretty simple choice if you ask me. Marry a wealthy, handsome, generous, wise, kind, romantic, and awesome prince or a jerk who dumped you but then decided hey you know what I'm a 2 now and now I can spoil you like a really man why don't we make up.

Amphitrite Annaw that is very interesting fanfic I actually made one about what happened as soon as he thought America and Aspen were a thing. So long story short in my fanfic he storms off into his room and rips off all of America's pictures from his wall. He then rips the one of him and America during that photo session in The Selection. Then he sits on the floor surrounded by the pictures of America and regrets ever trying to imagine a future with the two of them together. Then the queen comes in to congratulate him on being hours away from choosing a bride when she's the mess on the floor. She helps him place all the pictures in his beside drawer and try's to persuade him not to be hasty about his decision because of one bad argument between him and America. He still doesn't forgive America then but he folds the picture of him and America and puts it in the pocket of his jacket. Later when he gets shot he takes out the picture and like what America was doing at that same moment he wept thinking he lost all chances of them being together.

Clara Ahh! I would be like- WHAT?! WHAT!? WHAT?! WHAT!? Then ask a thousand questions.
