I enjoyed this book so much! It wasn't as quite as good as Old Man's War but I had a swell time!

I need to correct myself. It's not the same as Old Man's War. But it was so much fun.

I liked this a lot too! I agree with MrsJ. Not as good (or the same as) Old Man's War, but still fun.

I also listened to the audiobook.

And technically this is only the 3rd Scalzi we've read... We just chose them all in a row. Probably my fault, I got on a Scalzi kick!

I can't wait to dive into this on Audible once I'm done with current read. Scalzi is easily one of my favorite authors.

My Review (view spoiler)[WOW. John Scalzi is quickly becoming one of my favorite Sci-Fi writers.

I enjoyed reading The Collapsing Empire so very much, I have no words. I devoured this book in huge chunks and I was distracted at work all day yesterday – I was so anxious to get home and start reading.

The prologue was such an attention grabber – a space mutiny in progress! – but when it settled down in the opening chapter, everything still had a sense of urgency that was amazingly engrossing. I had some doubts at first – I’m not much into political plot lines and games of thrones (The Kushiel Universe being the major exception) but Scalzi’s writing carried me right past that concern. I loved it. I loved the good guys, booed the bad guys and even found myself cheering for a crude, foul-mouthed character.

And Caldinia. She’s the best kind of nice person: someone who isn’t nice to a fault. I loved the way she shut shit down when she had her first meeting after becoming Emperorox. The only issue I had was that Caldinia should have had the sister put to death. The only safe enemy is a dead one.

Scalzi’s dialogue is snappy without feeling forced – which made The Collapsing Empire a definite page turner. I would LOVE to see this one as a movie…

I’m finding it difficult to write this review as I’m still feeling the after-reading high. And I’m telling mom to read this one.

This book put me in a reading slump...
It was so good, I haven't found anything since that grabs my attention in the same way. That damn Scalzi magic!
