A Crack in Creation: Gene Editing and the Unthinkable Power to Control Evolution was just released a couple days ago (June 13, 2017), and I thought it looked really interesting. Looks like it's getting mixed reviews on Goodreads or at least mixed ratings, not many actual reviews. Has anyone read it or read about it?

Jane I just got a copy of the book. Give me a few days and I'll let you know.

**Edit: This is a tough book to get through. I can tell that the only vision they have is their own. One part that was glossed over was the part when they talked about the gene editing experiments on humans that went wrong. For instance there were 5 patients that took part in a gene editing experiment and rather than 'fix' what was wrong, the gene editing process turned on leukaemia. They didn't mention that the 'people' were children, I had to look that shit up. They said, "this incident underscores the inherent risks of giving a patient large quantities of a foreign agent, and randomly jamming a few thousand letters of dna into their genome." I also found out that the only gene editing that is being done today are clinical trials.

Ayyway, I'm trying to get through it but it's a very boring book and I am surprised that it has so many 5 star ratings. I'll be back with more later.

This could be an important book, especially in light of the recent breakthrough:

I just put this book on hold at the library. Looking forward to reading it.

Di | 24 comments The gene editing mentioned by Jane was done by a different method. these days CRISPR-Cas9 is all the rage and should be safer since it is more precise.
