Patrick Clark | 24 comments In the first novel of my new series - Central Intelligence Group - Tom O'Brien is sent to the Middle East in those transitional years after World War II as the OSS morphed into the CIA.

With the war over, O'Brien finds himself caught between two former allies as the British and the French duel for influence in the Middle East. Having to pick sides, it's an easy choice for O'Brien as he sees how the French gave sanctuary to the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem when the Palestinian cleric fled Berlin at the end of the war. The mufti had been an architect of the Holocaust and a cohort of Adolf Eichmann while he'd been sheltered by the Germans, but from Paris he continues to spread his virulent politics to the Arab world. O'Brien's choice of sides in the conflict sends him into a buzz saw of violence in Syria and Lebanon. Drugs, guns, and politics, a lethal brew in the back alleys of post-war Damascus and Beirut.
