Yes, mr. Tuttle of Gray London! (p251) He's such a great character, I know what it's like to desperately want something even though it clearly isn't for you and it doesn't come naturally to you, therefore I feel such empathy for him. But I was shocked by the last lines of his wonderfully written little chapter: Osaron is taking over Gray London too? King George's London? "Our" London, the one with no magic? This is very serious! How can the citizens ever resist him, stop him, when they don't even believe in him and his powers? It will be like shooting fish in a barrel for Osaron! Yet, shouldn't the fact that there is no magic in that world actually restrict him from having any powers there? A very tricky situation... Also, how was it possible for Osaron to even get to Gray London? Holland allowed him to break the sealed doorways and reach Red London because of the black stone from White London that had made its way there - just like Astrid Dane had done in book one (we don't blame you, Kell, lol). But who/what made it possible for him to access Gray London?... I need convincing answers.
Like Jay, I loved that scene with the map with no names, a map to anywhere... it was so pirate-like finally, I got such Treasure Island vibes (what a book!). I loved how it involved everyone, how Lila remembered having stolen it back in her world, Kell then remembered having smuggled it here. It was right under their noses :) And of course my boy Alucard came to the rescue, deciphering it.
Ugh, and when will Kell stop blaming him for everything, please? We get it, he broke your brother's heart, get over it, it's been years. Even Rhy himself has gotten over it. Btw, what a scene, when he told Alucard that allowing that kiss during Banner Night in the previous book was a slip and that he dosn't feel anything for him anymore and won't even allow Master Emery to explain to him why he left in the middle of the night back then!!! (but I want to know - though I'm starting to form a theory that the crown or Tieren had discovered their relationship and forced the captain to leave Rhy with no explanations or...). But... Rhy, my sweet prince.... I don't believe you one bit, you're still crazy for him! ;)
Such great pages! V.E. Schwab really has this gift of inserting these intimate moments in the midst of this huge demonic word-invasion without disrupting the narrative line and slowing down the book's pace.
Ending this comment with a confession: I'm at a complete loss as to who Jasta and Hastra are, I get them confused all the time. She shouldn't have named them like that. :)
Also: will you think less of me if I confess to you that I also didn't understand exactly what went on during the execution either? (p262) Was Holland fooling them all along or was he sincere about wanting to sacrifice himself to entrap the oshoc? And why did Osaron reject his offer to occupy him? If indeed that's what happened... Holland is an Antari, just like Kell.... I don't blame the author for this but rather my mediocre English... (and I read these pages two times!)
PS: Yes, this leads me finally to bring up the, as far as I'm concerned, most important topic of this book so far, that Jay didn't comment on: Holland's history! All those flashbacks about "the first time someone tried to kill him", those pages in italics. These revelations about his cruel orphan upbringing in White London, the way his own brother tried to kill him when he first manifested the black eye, and then his girlfriend, really made me change my view about him and see him in a kinder light. Very important additions, in my opinion.
I want more!

Yes, mr. Tut..."
Yes, very faced paced, I love it!
My thoughts exactly, regarding the chapter with Mr. Tuttle. How is Osaron in Grey London??? This is crazy, and I’m not sure how all of this is going to be wrapped up in this last book. It feels like there is so many questions but very little time for answers! Hmmm I wonder if Osaron is going to attempt to use Tuttles body as a vessel? Since Tuttle is like the only person with magic in Grey London (as far as we know). I hope this is not the case, but somehow Tuttle is going to have to be part of the plot.
Haha I agree, I’m not sure why Hastra and Jasta have such similar names! Though Hasta has been a character in the books for awhile now so I don’t really get them confused, but still, the names are too similar! Also, with the execution scene, I believe it was Holland’s plan all along to entrap the oshoc, however, I don’t really get their logic in the whole plan. It just seemed pretty obvious that Osaron wouldn’t fall for it.
Thanks for talking about Holland’s history! Completely forgot to mention that, but yes it is one of the most important moments. He has such a sad story growing up in White London with so many people trying to kill him, even his own brother. The flashback where his girlfriend tried to kill him was so tragic. At first I was thinking that someone would murder his girlfriend and he would seek revenge, but I was surprised when it was her that tried to kill him. I hope we get some more flashbacks like this!

I REALLY LIKE WHERE THIS IS GOING! I was so hoping we would see some more of the world, but after Osaron took over the city and everything... I buried this hope. BUT NOW IT LOOKS LIKE WE ARE GETTING SOME MORE EXPLORATION. WOOO!
Right now we are right at the part where everyone got on the (smaller-than-expected) ship and introduced to this young girl and old blind man who happen to be quite skilled in the art of thieving. Idk why but I already love these characters! I'm also very excited to see such a huge mix of characters going on this journey, I can imagine we got some drama ahead of us!
A lot has happened since our last discussion (I'm thinking I might start doing more then just 3 discussions per book again) so it might be hard to remember some of the crazy stuff that has happened. But at least we have all read up to this point.
I feel so sad for Alucard, how he lost his sister :( I wonder if his brother will ever get saved... now that he made an appearance at Osaron's new castle. I for sure think that he will be used against Alucard.
Moving forward again to some of the more recent parts, one of my favourite scenes in the book so far was when everyone was in (I think it was Rhy's room?) as Alucard was deciphering the Pirates Cipher. Lila drew attention to Osaron's castle, and everyone went to the window to see, Rhy being upset that Osaron is "playing blocks" with his arenas, Hastra showing his surprise in the form of a religious exclamation. I just thought this scene was funny, and showed a lot of all the characters personalities. Not just this exact moment, but the whole scene when they were in the room. For some reason I just loved it. However I did think the remark made by Alucard during a confrontation with Kell where he said, "I'm rather good with hard things. Just ask-" to be kind of, for lack of better words, a dumb line. It seems kinda silly to bring Alucards and Rhys relationship down to a cringy sexual joke. It just sort of seemed out of character for Alucard to say in my opinion. Idk, maybe I just can't take a joke :P
Oh and I almost forgot! Good ole Edward Archibald Tuttle made a quick appearance! I'm still really interested in his character, although now I am a bit worried about what may happen to him. Worries aside, do you suspect that he will get more skilled in magic and become a magician?
This book has been non-stop suspense, and I think so far I like it the most out of the series! What's coming next seems very promising to me, and I'm excited to set off on this journey to find this Inheritor.
