Malcolm Noble | 0 comments One of Christie's favourites and, I think, one of her best portrayals of family relationships. The villain is excellent but I'm sure she is detected in a very effective way. One of my favourites. Helped by a likeable narrator. Five stars from me

Alberto Is there an inconsistency? Sophia is around 24 (she's described as 22 in the opening pages and it's been around 2 years). The book is set at the end of WW2 in 1945. Her grandmother died in 1905. But in chapter 4 Sophia says "I only just remember her." Wouldn't she have died 15 years before Sophia was born?

Mark Pghfan | 95 comments Yes, Alberto, there is that inconsistency. Christie was never that accurate about her chronology. I agree, though, that is one of her very best books. I understand that the publishers wanted her to change the culprit, but Christie stood her ground and created a near-classic. Too bad this has never been adapted into a movie or television episode. Perhaps they could turn in into a Miss Marple adaptation like they did to so many of the non-Marple books.

S.M. (rosemaryandmint) Hi! New to the group!

I listened to a dramatization of The Crooked House earlier this year. What an ending! This one of my favorite books just for the end. I found Sophia's constant insecurity about her family and her apologizing very annoying. But the plot more than compensates for it.

Hannah Brown | 26 comments *SPOILER ALERT* Hi, Just finished this book today. At the start, I felt it was a bit disappointing and slow, Christie had let me down. I think this was because of all the info about the wills and stuff. But when I got nearer the end of the book, I was not disappointed! Wow, Christie did it again and fooled us all!
At chapter 12, I guessed the right person- Josephine, and yet when she was found with the boulder on her head, my suspicions went to Sophia. All I can say is wow, Christie fooled us big time.

Hannah Brown | 26 comments What are you guys reading next? I'm gonna go on to ABC Murders, followed by Five Little Pigs. Would you recommend them or any other particular Christie book. No spoilers please!
