Bre As there is a limitless roster of characters to pick from, who is your all-time least favorite HP character? Which tosser really rubs you the wrong way?

I'd honestly have to choose Fleur Delacour.

Nikita Percy Weasley for me, the only Weasley I didn't love

Sammy H Dolores Umbridge

Autumn Lord Fleur turned out to marry a Weasley guys. You have to admit at least she has good taste.

So true! XD

Gary I don't know if I'd say he's the "worst" character, but Arthur Weasley makes very little sense to me.

The cluelessness and confusion of people from the "Wizardly World" with muggle vocabulary and technology is fine. It's even more than a little amusing, and it follows that people TOTALLY engaged in a world not-quite-our-own would be confused. But it doesn't follow that Arthur Weasley would be. He's in the Ministry of Magic's Misuse of Muggle Artefacts Office, and supposedly a big fan of muggle technology, so it doesn't add up that he'd be ignorant of the muggle world as he is often portrayed.

He was meant to be killed off apparently so maybe the cluelessness initially wasn't an issue. He did get less clueless as time went by

Out of curiosity, what's your source for that? I don't doubt you. I'm just curious because Rawling has her famous boxes of notes and then things like later footnotes for the films, so I'm wondering where that came from.

Lu Definitely Umbridge
after that maybe Quirrel or Snape

I wonder about that too. If learning about Muggles is his career, why does it seem like he's just as clueless as any other wizard?

Chloe why are we all saying that arthur was the worst character? he is adorable if a little ignorant. i say hands down dolores umbridge.

Arshey Umbrigde and Percy Wealsey. I can't stand them.

Percy left his family just because of power and wealth.
Umbridge, her throat clearing and punishment.

Chloe yeah percy was snotty. and hahem. hahem. enough to get your blood boiling.

myannamarr Percy Wealsey, he was honestly a such a snob. You're supposed to always stick by your family no matter what and Percy Weasley broke that rule. I honestly don't understand what his purpose in the series was.

Bre Jake wrote: "Severus Snape... I know I will catch flak for this, but hear me out. Severus Snape is awful, completely terrible thru all 7 books, in many ways his petty tyranny is worse then the brutality of Dudl..."

Yes, he is terrible. I hated him for six books and tolerated him in the seventh. He's a bully as much as Draco Malfoy. He is in dire need of shampoo.

A lot of us were sympathetic towards Snape because of his love for Lily, sometimes blinded by it. It's like ever since the Deathly Hallows, we've forgiven Snape for every horrible thing he's done and how sour a person he is. A lot of us are suckers for a (one-sided?) love story. I'm still wondering if I like him or not.

Because he was victimized for a long time for being different. James Potter bullied him relentlessly just for having a crush on Lily. He grew up a spiteful person and a bully himself. It's crazy that he would risk his life for Dumbledore's side time and time again. There are some moments you wonder if he's a good person or not, some moments where he does something remarkably good. But I don't know.

He's not my least favorite character, but he's definitely not the best.

Squeak Squeak! Percy Weasley and Umbridge for sure.

message 17: by Eman (new) - rated it 5 stars

Eman Ahmed no doubt Umbridge. No one liked her except Filch. It was funny and nice when Fred and George played tricks on her.

message 18: by Isabelle (new) - added it

Isabelle Withers My least favourite character has got to be Snape. This is just a personal thing, as I cannot stand vindictive people and even though he did the right thing in the end, he still ruined a whole lot of lives and made children feel worthless which is the opposite of what a teacher is supposed to do.

message 19: by Emma (new) - rated it 5 stars

Emma Reads Cho Chang. There is no depth to her character. She is just pretty and popular girl. She has no important backstory and there really was no reason for her to be in the story at all. She was overly dramatic when she was with Harry and everything she does just gets on my nerves. I even like all of the villains more than her because at least those characters have a personality, good backstory, and they add a lot to the story. All that Cho did was make me cringe.

I couldn't agree more. Cho just doesn't make any sense to me, and for some reason it feels like she's not the type of character Rowling would have created. Just bleh.

Also Quirrel. I can't. I'm so glad he disappeared quickly.

message 21: by Kate (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kate Clomiro Umbridge or Snape

Lizzie Could. Not. Stand. Umbridge. Oh, and Percy was a git.

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

Umbridge is the worst, then after her Malfoy

Zaphan Personally I would say Snape

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

I didn't say him because in the end he was just doing what he was told

Zaphan I said Snape because I felt like if it weren't for Lily would he really have changed sides? also because in the end he didn't show up with Harry and the stone. Almost wish he did. would have loved if he did.

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

Umbridge is still the worst to me. Then maybe snape

Zaphan You know what now that I think about it and i don't think anybody mentioned it......Maybe Kreacher?

message 29: by [deleted user] (new)

He is pretty bad.

message 30: by Lu (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lu Snail wrote: "You know what now that I think about it and i don't think anybody mentioned it......Maybe Kreacher?"

I actually liked Kreacher after he was showed some kindness. Mrs. Black would be the bad one, she turned Kreacher into the creature he was at first.

Zaphan Same.....But that betrayal is still heavy on the heart for me.

message 32: by [deleted user] (new)

so technically they are both bad. when you think about it though other then Sirius the whole black family is pretty bad

Zaphan I guess they were like the Malfoys

message 34: by [deleted user] (new)

Mostly, yeah.

my word. he is pretty bad. everyone forgot to mention him

message 36: by Lili (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lili Umbridge, and Fudge too because he refuses to believe Voldemort is back. He is such a twat.
Also, I never really liked Cho particularly. When we knew Harry liked her, we had no idea why, just that she was pretty, and when they started going out she just seemed like a boring, self-obsessed girl (I forgive all her tears since she had a good reason, but that was annoying too). Like then when they were on the date and Harry mentioned meeting up with Hermione... Cho is just so stupid. I just didn't like her.
And Ginny.... Well, I wish she and Harry hadn't married. I guess she was okay in the books, but in the film i really didn't like her. She wasn't the worst though, and neither was Cho.
Probably Umbridge, Fudge and Snape (but only sometimes).

I liked Kreacher! Okay he didn't like Harry and his lot at first, and had bad morals and all that, but i kinda felt sorry for him. He was just old and loyal to his former mistress. Just my opinion :)

AlwaysGlo Dolores Umbridge
I feel she's even worse than Mr. I-don't-have-a-nose

Gergana For me, it is Severus Snape. First, let's start with the fact that he called his best friend a racial slur in front of probably the whole school. He said that what Mulciber did to Mary MacDonald was just a laugh. He wanted Voldemort to spare Lily's life, not caring about her husband and her baby. He also treated Harry horribly, because Harry reminded him of his father. Harry grew up without his parents, was abused severely by his aunt and uncle. In no way I justify what James did to Snape, but why on earth did he treated Harry so horribly. He insulted Hermione, resulting in her altering her appearance. He was Neville's boggart. Neville's parents were tortured to insanity, he was also abused by his uncle, but a teacher was his greatest fear.

Dolores Umbridge is much worse than him, of course, along with Voldemort and the death eaters, except for Narcissa Malfoy.

Gergana Jake wrote: "Severus Snape... I know I will catch flak for this, but hear me out. Severus Snape is awful, completely terrible thru all 7 books, in many ways his petty tyranny is worse then the brutality of Dudl..."

I agree with all of this. Let's not forget that he exposed Remus Lupin as a werewolf. Remus was an amazing teacher, he didn't deserve to lose his job.

I agree that he is a terrible person, however this question is asking the worst Character not the worst person. in my eyes that means the least developed or interesting one. so for me its harry, Ginny or James.

message 50: by Michael (last edited Oct 20, 2017 02:02PM) (new) - rated it 3 stars

Michael Sahd I can define the worst character as the most distasteful, or the most poorly written. I want to answer both. Also, so my answer won't be taken too poorly, I want to say: I read all the books (twice) and enjoyed them.

Every character in this story had personality flaws, but if I were to put a pin on the worst, it would most certainly be Harry's aunt and uncle. The conditions Harry grew up in were absolutely appalling, simply child abuse. The psychological abuse that Harry had to endure far outweighs any physical abuse he received from Umbridge. True, Umbridge and Snape were terrible to him, and Umbridge was certainly a disgusting person, but with Vernon and Petunia, Harry spent his entire childhood being hated and tormented.

Which leads me to the most poorly written - Harry Potter. I mean, seriously (sorry folks), but eight years of being abused, and suddenly, Harry shows up to Hogwarts as a curious and well-adjusted child. The psychological damage that Harry should have had would have been tremendous. It would have played a huge role in Harry's life. He would have found Snape's pettiness laughable at best. Harry would have probably welcomed Umbridge's pen, looking for excuses to get into detention.

Rowling could have done better. I mean, look at Snape. He got bullied in school, so as an adult he is petty and vindictive. Then Voldemort. His childhood was messed up, and he became the most villainous of them all.

Harry should have had way more flaws than he did. Children raised under Harry's conditions often suffer increased depression, anxiety, and difficulties in interpersonal relationships. . . I picture an emo Harry wearing skinny jeans and cutting himself in the bathroom. Ron and Hermione would still be his friends, but his only friends, and they would have to always be assuring him of their friendship.
