Bill's Chaos (wburris) On Thursday July 27 to July 31, I will run a poll to choose the book for Aug. Add your suggestions now.

I have already added 3 books, but I could add more. If you don't have any suggestions but would like more to choose from, add a comment saying that you want me to add more books.

Bill's Chaos (wburris) In the future I would like to have a set method and schedule for how we choose the book of the month. If I come up with some good questions for how to do this, I will add more polls at the same time as I put up the poll for the book of the month.

Damon Boyle (waywardgrandson) I could be wrong but I think other groups use a poll and just come for books after nominating a few

Bill's Chaos (wburris) The sort of questions I was thinking of asking are:
When should we run the poll to choose the book of the month?
- a month ahead
- a week ahead
- 3 days ahead
How long should the poll be open?
Should we have a two stage pole?
- take 2 or 3 most voted for and run a second pole to choose the book of the month
Do members want private messages whenever a poll opens?
I have been asking for suggestions. Do we want to call this nominations like in other groups?

Bill's Chaos (wburris) A while back I watched the lectures for the Coursera course, "Learning How To Learn". I didn't get around to reading the text for the class yet. If you are a student or just like learning, you might find this book useful.

A Mind for Numbers: How to Excel at Math and Science

Damon Boyle (waywardgrandson) I would allow at least a month to ensure people have time to get the book, I wouldn't bother with a second poll, and most groups I'm in private message so I would do that too. Just a bit of feedback to help out

Bill's Chaos (wburris) Since there hasn't been many suggestions I was looking around to see if there is anything else that I should add to the poll besides those listed above. I was looking at the Very Short Introductions books, wondering if some people would prefer short books. It occurred to me that the group might be interested in reading all the science related books from that series. We could do them as a second book each month, or an occasional book of the month. Any ideas?

Damon Boyle (waywardgrandson) I have read the quantum theory short introduction and am looking to read many more. Very nice little books

Bill's Chaos (wburris) If you have any more book suggestions, add them directly to the poll or to the discussion for the Sept book of the month.

NeoKlassik | 2 comments Hallo,
I don't know if I can speak for others but personaly:
I still haven't started with reading "Longitude" that's because I read also other books than those proposed here.

Therefore 1 Science Bookclub Book / Month is not doable for me an so I am always behind the actual poll.

message 17: by Bill's (new)

Bill's Chaos (wburris) I am thinking we should move the poll to take place earlier to give people more time to plan their reading.

We could set up a folder for book discussions to make it easier to comment on books from previous months.

I am still reading the June book.

NeoKlassik | 2 comments I think that's a good idea!
