Time Travel discussion

There is now a trailer doing the rounds for this upcoming adaptation of what some of you classes as a childrens time travel novel, A Wrinkle in Time. (I dont personally class this as time travel at all btw!) but I look forward to watching the film.

Has anyone seen the movie? I have never read the book.

Well. Goodness. I love the book; have read it at least 1/2 doz. times over the decades. And I'm usually not a big fan of movies. But this, oh, this looks wonderful. Visually a bit different, of course, but in some ways much better, I suspect.

And, no, it's not TT. But thanks for this thread anyway!

It hasnt been released yet, Nancy. Release day for US is 9th March and in UK, it will be 23rd March.

There was a previous made for TV version by Disney that some of you might like to watch. Its on Amazon video stream as a rental for $1.99. It seems to be faithful but with some changes that appears to annoy some reviewers.

Really? I saw the trailer months ago at the theater. I assumed it must have come out by now. LOL

Ha, well teasers often come out almost a year before release. Then about 5-6 months, we would get a more fleshed out trailer and then closer to release you get a story driven trailer (which tends to be the longest at around 2mins 30secs ish). That's the usual marketing pattern.

So far, they have only released that one teaser (cool teaser though! Love the rendition of Eurythmics' Sweet Dreams)

I read the book a very long long long time ago. I need to read it again before watching the movie.

I’ve had this on my TBR list for a little while. I had assumed the book was about time travel. Is it too much of a kid’s book that an adult wouldn’t enjoy it? I occasionally read & enjoy YA. This book is tagged as both YA & children’s.

It is SF, and there is a bit of TT in the sense that no time passes for home while the kids are on their adventure.

It's def. for children and tweens. It's a bit simple in some ways... but quite profound in many others. Many people read it over and over again as they mature and get something new every time... sort of like The Golden Compass or The Chronicles of Narnia.

I don't know if an adult reading it for the first time would appreciate it. But I'd recommend it anyway, if for no other reason than because it's a cultural touchstone, a classic that lots and lots of people have read and have been shaped by.

I loved that book when I was a young teenager. I can't imagine it being that good to read for the first time as an adult though. I know they did a movie for this book some years back but I didn't like it. I just watched the preview for the new movie and it looks awesome! I'd totally go to this new one.
