Kasia (kasiareads) | 240 comments This thread is going to be for you to talk about how many books you have set to read this year, why you chose the number you did, and it gives you a chance to update fellow members on your reading progress throughout the year! You can talk about struggles about reading a set number of books (if you have any issues) or you can talk about how great you're doing. You can discuss tips with fellow members to help everyone reach their goal by the end of the year.

So... how many books have you set yourself to read this year and why?

I personally have set 40 books, and I am 22 books in. GR says I am now 1 book behind schedule (when yesterday it said I was on track.. grr) and I feel disappointed in myself because I have been in a reading slump at times & I have gotten easily distracted by my computer.. and netflix... and social media... and netflix. :/ But I do feel proud about having read 22 books (How many people in my neighbourhood can say that? :P) Last year is when I really started doing the GR goal and I set it to 30, and I surpassed it with 41 books! I highly doubt I will be 11 books ahead of my goal this year (unless I read tiny books) but I am alright with that. My goal is just to get to 40, and to hopefully enjoy most of those last 18 books. :)

Sakuko | 12 comments I put down 150 which might be a bit high. I'm at about 71.
I usually net somewhere above 100, but I've had a bunch of pretty bad books and some really long ones, which slow the progress down.
But I won't press myself for it. Reading is supposed to be fun, not work, after all.

Kasia (kasiareads) | 240 comments Wow 71 books?!?? 😳 Holy, you are dedicated! Good for you!!! 150 is very ambitious, but you are doing well! Keep going!

I have been doing well with my Goodreads Challenge up until last year :( This reading slump really wants to stay in my life, unfortunately.

Victoria Scott | 1131 comments I set myself 100, but I'm only on 34... We'll see if I manage to catch up, but I might have to put my number down a bit!

71 is SO IMPESSIVE, Sakuko!!

Kasia (kasiareads) | 240 comments Tanya-Maybe 2017 isn't your year, but you still have many reading years to come and I believe in you that you can do it! Hopefully you will get out of a reading slump too. I recommend a contemporary to help you get out of a slump because it's easy to read, quick to get through, and might be just the cure you need.

Victoria- 34!!! Wowza!! That's good! I wish I could be that far. I wanted to set myself at 100 books but that's basically around 2 books a week, and that is too much for me because of school. Keep on going though! :)

Claire | 9 comments My challenge is 100 and I'm on 71 so I reckon I'm doing alright so far :)

:D

The only problem is I keep reading the first one in a series and then I don't get chance to go back and read the rest lol. Maybe that's a challenge for next year!

Kasia (kasiareads) | 240 comments Beginning of August update! : 25/40 books now! Goodreads says I'm now 1 book ahead of schedule, which is great news for me :) I'm on my 26th book, Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor, and I'm hoping to read at least 5-6 books this month. Wish me luck :)

message 11: by Victoria (new)

Victoria Scott | 1131 comments Haha Claire, I do exactly the same. I have so many unfinished series all over the place...

message 12: by Hannah (new)

Hannah My Yearly goal is lower than ever, Ive been in a reading slump here lately and have only ready 5 books this year.. I set my goal at 10 and if I happen to reach that before the end of the year ill raise my goal :)

This is a huge change for me since last time I did the yearly reading challenge I read 140+ books that year..

message 13: by Victoria (new)

Victoria Scott | 1131 comments Oh wow, that's such a big change! Are you a lot busier this year, or just not managing to get out of that slump? I understand though, I'm reading a lot less as well

Haha, it's a little of both I guess. Not much time, but when I do have time I usually pick to do other things I don't usually have time for.. probably because of the slump..

You all have such ambitious goals :) I initially set my Goodreads goal at 18 however I'm in a major reading slump so I lowered it to 10 hoping I can reach it :)

message 16: by Claire (new)

Claire | 9 comments The thing is you don't want reading to start feeling like a chore so while a goal is a fun idea, it doesn't really matter how many books you read in a year. As long as you enjoy the ones you do read :)

That's good advice :) Thanks!

Jim Townsend | 19 comments I picked 66 books to read this year, which would surpass my previous high of 65, set in 2009. I'm on page 113 of 729 in book #42, Natasha's Dance: A Cultural History of Russia by Orlando Figes, which I am really enjoying and which is #116 on a TBR of 4,651. Goodreads says that I'm two books behind schedule. The problem with always playing catch up is that it's often awfully hard to get to mustard.

I've completed abandoned my reading challenge as reading has been on the back burner this year which is unfortunate.
