N. | 13 comments How do you feel about the book status feature on Goodreads? I've been trying to figure out the etiquette behind using that feature. And I'm willing to hear your thoughts.

Jayne (britishjayne) | 50 comments Personally I only use the start and finished.

I've seen people use it to state their opinion on the section where they're at, but I'm super sensitive to spoilers. For me, saying "OMG Can't believe that plot twist at 37%" is, what Redheadedgirl called, an "anticipation spoiler". Beyond the blurb, I want to know virtually nothing going in. I only read reviews after I've finished. Maybe I'm just my own flavour of weird.

Interested in how other people use it though.

Second what Jayne said. Start and finish only and don't read the reviews before. I rarely read the reviews after (never before). I want to experience the book without any outside "noise". If someone is really pushing a book (for example Oprah's Book Club), I probably won't read it. Also "I'm just my own flavour of weird." (Good summation Jayne!)

Becky (fibrobabe) | 13 comments I will occasionally do an update when I come across a particularly good line, or comment on something suuuuper annoying. But I hate spoilers too, so I try not to post anything spoilerish. It's not a feature I use a lot, maybe once every couple of months.

I'm also with Jayne! I tend to only do it for marking my progress through a book. I rarely leave comments in a status.

Joanna Loves Reading (joannalovesreading) I do status updates if I have something I want to share or maybe a fun or touching quote or sometimes one that confounds me. I try not to spoil anything. I like to keep track of my progress in a book and don't always include a status with it.
