Jason (jasondenness) | 26 comments I am useless at lip-reading I can barely tell if somebody says yes or no. :-)

I was talking to one of the deaf teachers where I work and she was telling me how hard it is to lip-read, so many words look the same and numbers are really tough.

Check out this video to see how good you are.

I managed a couple of words here and there.

Harry Whitewolf | 6 comments Have never tried to lip read before, so that was an interesting exercise.

I got the second one - and was amazed I was right! Didn't get any of the others though.

It was definitely a good exercise to be able to relate a little to deaf people's worlds.

Jason (jasondenness) | 26 comments Or women are just smelly and I'm too awesome to read lips?

message 9: by Harry (new)

Harry Whitewolf | 6 comments Yeah, that'll be it. ;)

Jason (jasondenness) | 26 comments Glad we all agree on that.

Weird And Odd I don't even bother trying to learn to read lips. It's extremely hard, especially when people talk fast, cover their mouths, have beards, mispronounce words, etc.!

Maiv | 3 comments I really enjoy lip-reading challenges because I always play with puns/word playing, in order to develop my sense of humor and vocabulary as well! 🤪

M.M. Strawberry Library & Reviews (mmstrawberry) | 3 comments Lipreading can be a real bitch to deal with, especially when the person mumbles or what not. Don't get me wrong - lipreading is a valuable skill and one should try to learn it as much as possible, but it is important to understand that NO ONE can master it.

Reading just 50 percent of what is being said is an huge accomplishment - success rate is often lower than that. Hearing people need to understand that and not just assume that deaf people are experts at lipreading or whatever.
