Bookworm Veterinarians discussion

Hello to all the early adopters out there!

Maybe we could start off answering three basic questions:

1) Where do you live?

2) What type of work are you currently doing?

3) What's your top book recommendation for other veterinarians right now?

I'll start:

1) Currently Sicily but moving this summer to San Diego.

2) active duty military veterinarian - starting a new job soon in the special operations community

1) Live in East Kingston, NH. Not very exotic, but I do love it.
2) Just got a full time job teaching biology and chemistry at a local community college!
3) Hmmm...I'm currently reading The Sea Inside by Philip Hoare. Much of it touches upon marine organisms, and there's even a porpoise necropsy. The writing can be quite beautiful in places.

I haven't heard of it before so I'll add it to my list.

2) Working full time in small animal practicing and doing some public speaking on the side, building more relationships between vets and other pet professionals.

3) Just one :)? I think I'd have to go with "Guys Can Be Cat Ladies Too: A Guidebook for Men and Their Cats". Had me falling over, crying with laughter within the first 10 pages.

1) I live in Palatine, Illinois. I can't resist telling Sarah that I lived in Durham, NH, a long time ago, and so there's a special place in my heart for NH and ME.

3) I am currently reading:Better: A Surgeon's Notes on Performance. But my copy happens to be an Indian edition; so the cover does not look anything like any of the options provided here.

I work as a relief vet while I pursue a Master's in Conservation Medicine.

I am currently reading "Wolf Hall" which has nothing to do with veterinary medicine. However, I LOVED reading "Appointment At the Ends of the World" by William Karesh. Appointments at the Ends of the World: Memoirs of a Wildlife Veterinarian

I look forward to more book suggestions.

Heya all

I live in the blasted wastes of Devon, in the UK, where it is currently several degrees hotter than the surface of an M-class star. Being British I shall stoically maintain a stiff upper lip and not in any way moan about the bloody weather.

I work in general practice in Plymouth, and I'm very happy being a GP, though I would like to get my CertGP at some point - but there's too many books to read!

Top book for vets would be one of my favourite books of all time: Last Chance to See by the late, lamented and I still can't believe he actually went and died on us Douglas Adams
