Blaque Diamond (blaquediamondbooks) | 76 comments Hey guys, my question is when you're creating a series do you include the series title on the cover and spine of your books whether it's an ebook or physical book? Or do you include the series title information on the book page online? I have a book that is part of a volume, but I did not include a series title on my cover because I hadn't thought of a title for it, but now I have and I was wondering if I needed to include it on the cover of the book so that readers would know that it is a part of a series. The books do say volume one, volume to eat TC but the series title is not on the book.

Marie Silk | 611 comments I think it's best to be clear and consistent with blurb, cover, and title on product page, so readers know what they're getting into. Ebook and Print covers should match for this reason, imo.

Zoltán (witchhunter) | 267 comments I think it depends on each book. Including the title of each.
Some series have similar titles for each part, intentionally sounding similar, or have a keyword. (eg. Frank Herbert's 6 Dune books: Dune, Dune Messiah, Children of Dune, God-Emperor of Dune, Heretics of Dune and Chapterhouse: Dune). With these you don't need to include it.

If the titles are completely different, it may be a good idea. It depends on the length of the combined title too. ("Mighty Mindbogglingly Mad Man-Munching Monsters of Mars: (Book 2) Haunted Hero Has Heavenly Hunt" may not fit on a normal cover :P )

Regardless of the cover:
- Clarify in blurb.
- Show series info on internal title pages and/or back of the book (depending on your edit).

Blaque Diamond (blaquediamondbooks) | 76 comments Thanks so much guys for your input. Based on your responses I think I will just keep them different books. I didn't write them with the intention of it becoming a series, so I guess I will just leave them separate. Just to clarify what I was saying: For instance, my book is entitled Love, Lies and Heartbreak Volume 1. There will be 2 other volumes. The title is the same, just the volume number will change. These are anthologies of short stories. Since all the stories deal with heartbreak, I thought that I could name the series "When Love Hurts", but I didn't think of that until I had already published the first book. I am currently writing the second volume, but now maybe it isn't such a good idea since I already published the first one, and the series title was not included anywhere on the cover or contents of the book. Thanks so much for your help.
