Fictionista Du Jour | 4 comments Hi all,

Let me know if I'm doing this wrong.

I am looking for a paperback suspense novel. I either purchased it at a drug store in the late 90s, or got it at a grocery convention in the early to mid 90s.

The story centered on a hermit who lived in the Sierra Nevadas and kidnapped a woman, I think he might have been a serial killer. in my head, he looked like Hagrid, but much musclier. The reason I remember this novel is that it had one of the only chase scenes I've ever been able to follow, where the kidnap victim is running through the mountains, barefoot, and the killer is slowly plodding behind her.

I wish I could remember the rest of the plot, but I think there might have been a grizzled retiring detective (or I could just be thinking if every serial killer book and movie I've ever consumed.)

It has nothing to do with Jaycee Dugard, but that's all I get when I try to google, it's not true crime, definitely fiction. I don't remember it being good...i just want to reread the chase scene and see if I can figure out why I understood it (normally action, sports, and chases in books leave me glossed over and impatient). Thanks in advance!

Tab (tabbrown) | 5084 comments Did the story focus more on the killer, the kidnapped woman, or the investigator?

Do you remember the cover?
Time period the story took place?

Fictionista Du Jour | 4 comments It was contemporary, and it was omniscient narrator, I think. Sadly, I don't remember the cover...

Fictionista Du Jour | 4 comments Oh, not it but similar. I don't think it was part of a series.
