Every girl who had taken the test has died.
Now it's Kate's turn.

It's always been just Kate and her mom - and her mother is dying. Her last wish? To move back to her childhood home. So Kate's going to start at a new school with no friends, no other family and the fear that her mother won't live past the fall.

Then she meets Henry. Dark. Tortured. And mesmerizing. He claims to be Hades, god of the Underworld - and if she accepts his bargain, he'll keep her mother alive while Kate tries to pass seven tests.

Kate is sure he's crazy - until she sees him bring a girl back from the dead. Now saving her mother seems crazily possible. If she succeeds, she'll become Henry's future bride and a goddess.

End of chapter 17 (view spoiler)[ ooh I didn't think it would be Calliope that was trying to kill her! Does that mean she was the one to kill the other girls? Or was someone else involved? (hide spoiler)]

Finished (view spoiler)[ so the whole town didn't even exist? That must take a lot of power to fake! And everybody tricked her! It was a weird twist. I'm not sure that I like that they were all Olympians, like Ava, etc (hide spoiler)]

Some major twists and turns but I would not be as accepting of everything as Kat was. I would be demanding a whole lot more answers. Like the Xander death, Ava death etc. Why was Calliope serving another god? And Calliope is already a goddess of herself in greek mythology so how/why is she Hera? It doesn't add up! But still, good story. Despite irregularities I was riveted. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 4: (view spoiler)[ This book had an alright start. I totally expected that prank with Ava as soon as she led her to some shady place. I'm a bit skeptical that James and Ava immediately believed Kate about the whole reviving thing with Henry... I don't think anybody would actually believe something like that without proof. Chapter 7: (view spoiler)[ This has been interesting enough so far. I'm intrigued with whatever these tests are going to entail, and how Kate will take being a goddess. I mean, I'm assuming that she's going to pass all the tests because otherwise she'd die and it would leave for a very strange rest of the series. I have high hopes for this one! (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 11: (view spoiler)[ I knew that the exam wouldn't be an actual "test." Henry told her that she wouldn't know when she was being tested, if I'm not mistaken. I had suspected that James would be in on this, but now I'm curious as to which god he is. I'm liking this so far. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 14: (view spoiler)[ I'm really liking this! I'm a sucker for Greek mythology. I hope we get to find out what the tests were. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 16: (view spoiler)[ There was a bit of foreshadowing with Calliope saying "I know" and I knew then that she was in love with Henry and jealous of Kate. I thought that Henry said he's changed all the staff before... it confuses me that Calliope would've been the killer for all the girls. I was definitely expecting something terrible to go down at that picnic and I was right. (hide spoiler)]

Done: (view spoiler)[ I didn't expect it to be Calliope! I feel like the prologue kinda ruined the thing with her mom being Demeter at the end. Because of the prologue I already knew that her mom was a goddess. I enjoyed how I was able to look at the list and make connections (Phillip was Poseidon and Phillip took care of the horses, Hestia was Sofia and she took care of her mom, her mom was Demeter and she was pulling out the weeds in the garden). I would've preferred if they used their Greek names rather than normal ones. I'm still confused and have a lot of unanswered questions... what was real and what wasn't? How much of that was a setup? Is her dad mortal? (hide spoiler)]

chapter 15 (view spoiler)[ i think what she said to Ava was true, she is acting like the old Ava, i tolerate her but i don't really like her. (hide spoiler)]

end chapter 16 (view spoiler)[ i knew it!! gahhh the moment calliope said that coment about Henry i knew she liked him and then she asked her to have a picnic in the forest, it was pretty obvious. (hide spoiler)]

the end was pretty cool (view spoiler)[ i knew her mother was part of something in that world but i wasn't expecting at all that she was part of the council. There a still some things i don't understand, was her mother really sick? whose her and father? I hope it will be answered in the next book (hide spoiler)]

chapter 10 (view spoiler)[ I want Henry and Kate to get together. I can tell she likes him but is fighting the feelings. What going to happen now that she had failed??? (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[I love greek mythology that's why I chose to read this book! And even tho my favorite god is Apollo, I always liked Hades, his darkness, it's alluring, so I decided to read this book, to imagine him in contemporary romance. And Henry so far is just as I imagined him, and wow this book is interesting!! So is he going to bring Ava back again or what? (hide spoiler)]

50% - [Chapter 6-10]
(view spoiler)[It's getting better and better!!! I really like this book. The way she cares about everyone and the way she fights for the ones that she cares, and doesn't cry and leave the hard parts on Henry or on other male characters unlike majority of female characters do usually!!
I love the way author developed these characters!!
And do she failed??!! How? Why? Can't wait to read and see the end of this book! (hide spoiler)]
