Hi. I have a question about referring to my protagonist. I'm currently writing the first chapter of my story. Within this first chapter, she is referred to as k-1103. However, when she meets the love interest, her name changes to Katya. She doesn't remember the name she was given at birth as all her memories have been wiped.

So, what would the right thing be to do? Should I refer to her as her code name (K-1103) or the name she is given later (Katya) in the first chapter?

In 1974, Hearst family daughter was kidnapped and became famous as Patricia (Tanya) as she'd been so influenced or susceptible within her radical activist group, she gave up her old name at least completely for that time we paid attention to her (the nation; I was not in group).
If your programming allows for questions of memory, the perforations of identity can recur as k-1103 comes back a clouded hint within your book. If not, then you can be as mechanical as you wish and make the story something one has to accept as such, technical and arbitrary at others' discretions.

That's interesting. I've never heard of that.
