Kelly | 1002 comments The Great Gatsby was written by F. Scott Fitzgerald in 1925 and I still found it an enjoyable read today. It tells the tale of Jay Gatsby and his undying love for Daisy Buchanan. There are many rumors about Gatsby and how he became wealthy, but Daisy knew him before all of this. They are eventually brought together again after years of separation.

The book is narrated by Gatsby's neighbor, Nick Carraway, who is one of the few honorable people in the story. Fitzgerald includes an assortment of other characters who have their own flaws which adds to the drama as events unfold. I see why The Great Gatsby is a classic.

Susie I heart Gatsby.

Me too.. I listened to the audio narrated by Jake Gyllenhaal and it was wonderful.

Love that version

BTW - Welcome to the group!

Jason Oliver | 3046 comments The is one of my favorite conversations in the book.

Jordan Baker and Nick.

“You’re a rotten driver,” I protested. “Either you ought to be more careful, or you oughtn’t to drive at all.”
“I am careful.”
“No, you’re not.”
“Well, other people are,” she said lightly.
“What’s that got to do with it?”
“They’ll keep out of my way,” she insisted. “It takes two to make an accident.”
“Suppose you met somebody just as careless as yourself.”
“I hope I never will,” she answered. “I hate careless people. That’s why I like you.”

Nicole R (drnicoler) | 8088 comments I love this conversation from the book! And Jordan and I may have a similar approach to driving!

Count me in with the people who like Gatsby. I have read it several times and enjoyed it most when I recently (3-4 years ago now, probably) read it and spent some time doing a little Google research. As I get older, and superficial research gets easier to do, I find that I really enjoy reading about what I am SUPPOSED to glean from classics. I do not often pick up on them while reading, but it is interesting to learn about them.

Nicole, I'm with you. I read the book then meditate on it for a while until I am confident in how I feel and what I gleaned from the book then google what other people find and say. I find it interesting and really has helped me appreciate works on a deeper level.

Susie And the Baz movie is FABULOUS! Did others enjoy it too?

Jason Oliver | 3046 comments Susie, I think the movie would have been better being called something else. As Gatsby there was alot I didn't like. As a movie it was good.

Susie I am a massive Baz fan so it ticked all of my boxes.

Nicole R (drnicoler) | 8088 comments Susie, I loved the Baz movie!

Susie I was mesmerised! I wanted to watch it all over again straight away!
