Thanks! I'm hoping for it! I have yet to update this tread, but I'm already 4-5 books in! I think I'll finish at least Kilimanjaro, but MAYBE I can get to El Toro!

Natália Lopes (silkcaramel) | 107 comments Book #49: Cherry by Lindsey Rosin
"Cherry" by Lindsey Rosin
TBR since: August, 2016
Finished: October, 2017.
Rating:★★★★★
Comment: One of the best books I've read this year and a favorite. This gave me such warm, fuzzy feelings and I loved how realistic these girls and these relationships were protrayed. So so happy to finally read this.

Book #50: The Name of the Star (Shades of London, #1) by Maureen Johnson
"The Name of the Star" by Maureen Johnson
TBR since: September 12, 2015
Finished: October, 2017.
Rating:★★ - actual rating: 2.5 stars
Comment:This book was such a disappointment. I was hoping for this intriguing mystery, but all I got was a bland main character, who's biggest worries were her hockey practices, making out esporadically with this classmate and complain about how American she was. She had no interest in any of the evens going on around her, except when it finally got her in the middle of everything, and even then the only time she cared enough about the murders where when she realized she was in danger. Which means nothing really happened till halfway through the book. The paranormal aspect was poorly developed and the main mystery turned out just 'meh'. There were some interesting characters and aspects of this story that got my attention and I would like to learn more about, but don't care to continue on with the series enough to find out.

Natália Lopes (silkcaramel) | 107 comments Book #51: The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson
"The Unexpected Everything" by Morgan Matson
TBR since: November, 2016
Finished: September, 2017.
Rating:★★★★★
Comment: Another book I loved, and it was a joy to read. I don't read much contemporary YA, but Morgan Matson and Kasie West are a few exceptions. I love Matson's take on coming of age stories, of her construction of characters and relationships. I loved the friendships developed in this book, the main romance was ADORABLE and the issues the author brought were realistic and well developed. I ended up loving Andie's relationship with her father, as well as her friends and how she slowly learned to relax a little and not stick strickly to her perfectly made plans and give into change, and feelings. Can't wait to read more from the author.

Book #52: The Kiss of Deception (The Remnant Chronicles, #1) by Mary E. Pearson
"The Kiss of Deception" by Mary E. Pearson
TBR since: July, 2016
Finished: October, 2017.
Rating:★★★
Comment: I don't know how to feel towards this book. I like the world building, this post-apocalyptic world the author created that is super interesting, but Lia irritated me sometimes - she was a mix between strong willed, brave and foolish, as well as naive. And at times her inativity had me frustrated. I guessed who was the prince and who was the assassin early on, so it wasn't that big of a reveal for me. I had some issues with Kaden's character here, but I can't quite put my finger on it. The pacing was slowish, the main mysteries of the book were brought up only at the beginning and ending and it focused more on the romance aspect of it, and it bothered me a little. I was more interested in the fantasy aspect, the plot behind everything and the characters to care much for romance. The whole kind of fell flat to me. I'm interested enough to continue on, and I hope the next book will be more action packed and bring more answers - and maybe focus on some character development, which was another thing lackking here.

Book #53: Daughter of Deep Silence by Carrie Ryan
"Daughter of Deep Silence" by Carrie Ryan
TBR since: April,2016
Finished: October, 2017.
Rating:★★★★★ - actual rating: 4.5 stars
Comment:This felt like a teenage version of Revenge, but I loved every second. The author really explored the tool revenge takes on someone, how lonely and angry is this path and how it changes you. Frances was such a badass character, though, she always knew what she wanted and planned for it the entire time. She's smart and focused and I like that she doesn't loose much of her moral sense through the entire thing - she doesn't want anyone 'innocent' to get involved or hurt, she just wants the truth out in the open and for the people responsible to pay for the lives they took. The ending was satisfatory, even if it was open, and even though the 'why they did it' was not that convoluted or big (it was actually kind of flat), it made perfect sense and the feeling of helplessness and frustration Frances felt conveyed everything the reader feels as well. I had some issues with Sheperd, but minor and only at first and it didn't take from my enjoyment of the book at all.

Comment: I'm still reeeling from this book. It was so fantastic and I was not expecting to love it as much as I did. Yes, this book was all the hype back in 2014-2015 and I end up buying the entire series on my Kindle when they were all out, but I never got around to read it....and now I'm immensely sorry for that, because I was missing out BIG TIME. I love me some retellings and a complete twist on one of the biggest movies of all times was exactly my cup of tea. A favorite of the year and an easy 5 stars. I can't wait to continue with the series and be surprised with what comes next, especially because there's a lot that's left unexplained by the end of the first volume!

Comment:This book was such a disappointment. For a final book in a trilogy, I was expecting at least a dignifying ending for a story that fell apart considerably after the first book. Everything was predictable and too rushed, and everything was solved way too easily. The interesting aspects of peculiardom that could have been more explored in this book, as well as Jake's gift, were just breezed through and the main mystery of all, The Library of Souls, that was supposed to be the end goal of our villains, was just the scenario were the last battle took place, and even so it was rushed and badly done.

Emma annoyed me to no end during this novel, with her judgy and moralistic ways and the fact that she was only there for moral support, because she did nothing of actual interest in the entire thing. The plot could have been better, if again it wasn't as rushed and if we didn't stop every few scenes for Jacob and Emma to have their gooey-sweet moments. The new characters, who had the potential to be interesting and complex, were just flat. Not even the pictures, the more interesting aspects of these books, could save the story here - of all the three books, these ones were the least interesting and 'peculiar' of all. They just seemed like these really old photos of normal people and stuff. A poor ending to a so-so series.

"Star Cursed" by Jessica Spotswood
TBR since: December 27, 2014
Finished: November 06, 2017.

Comment:This second book of the Cahill Witch Chronicles trilogy didn't suffer the 'middle book sydrome' at all, because not only was it action packed, fast paced and thrilling to read, it was even better than the first book. I just couldn't put it down! There's a lot going on here, questions answered, tensions running high and the sense of imminent danger and something bad about to happen is present in the entire book, coming to the big boom at the end. And what an ending! I just couldn't believe it. I need the next book NOW!

Book #57: Ruby Red (Precious Stone Trilogy, #1) by Kerstin Gier
"Ruby Red" by Kerstin Gier
TBR since: June 09, 2015
Finished: November 08, 2017.
Rating:★★★★ - actual rating: 3.5 stars
Comment:Not the amazing book I was expecting, but I liked it a lot. I liked the whole time-travel mythology created here, I enjoyed the characters and the relationships. This felt more like an introdutory book, because not much happened and it didn't have a climax (to be honest, I was surprised when the book was over, because I kept waiting for that big thing to happen and suddenly there were no more pages). But it left me curious to pick up the next volume soon.

Natália Lopes (silkcaramel) | 107 comments Book #58: Perfect Scoundrels (Heist Society, #3) by Ally Carter
"Perfect Scoundrels" by Ally Carter
TBR since: April 16, 2015
Finished: November 11, 2017.
Rating:★★★★
Comment: This third book in the Heist Society series has a different premise thant the previous books in the series. I don't know if I like it as much, since this was more of a relantionship and character based kind of book, but I enjoy this series a lot - the characters are entertaining and the whole 'heist' feel, as well as the crew, is so much fun! There weren't many twists in this one and the ones it did have were fairly predictable. It's a light, fast and entertaining read and I like Ally's writing and how well planned her plots are. Not my favorite in the series, but I enjoyed it.

2 more books to go and I'll plant my flag on Mt. Kilimanjaro! Can I make it to El Toro?

Comment: I love the tv series based on these novels, and I even liked the first four books when I was a pre-teen, but I think I outgrew these books. I found most of the characters annoying and irritating, and there wasn't much plot to it. I couldn't bring myself to care for most of what was going on during the reading. Still, parts of it were entertaning.

Book #60: The Girl in the Steel Corset (Steampunk Chronicles, #1) by Kady Cross
"The Girl With the Steel Corset" by Kady Cross
TBR since: July 25,2015
Finished: November 16, 2017.
Rating:★★★ - actual rating: 2.5 stars
Comment: I was so excited for this book, but it was so disappointing! The writing was poor, the villain was just meh, the characters were flat and some of them were just annoying (especially Sam) and they thought one thing and acted the opposite at the next second, everything was too predictable and all the 'contraptions' invented in this victorian era were too modern to even be thought out. It felt off and it took from the scenery. Although I did like the idea of a Jekyll and Hyde reimagining, it was not exactly well done. It did have some good characters that I wanted to know more about, but it wasn't enough to make me go on with the series.

Natália Lopes (silkcaramel) | 107 comments And with that I'm done with Mt. Kilimanjaro! YAY! I've reached the top much earlier than I did last year, and I'm so happy! I'll move on to El Toro with low expectations of actually getting to the top, but let's see what I can accomplish with a month left till the end of 2017.
