Reading the Chunksters discussion

Here we reach the final part of our story.

I am not sure how many are still reading, but would suggest using spoiler tags for any of the key twists until our end date on 14 December.

I finished! Wow those were some crazy parts at the end! I was secretly pleased at gentleman's outcome. Did anyone anticipate the developments about sue and maud? I didn’t think Charles added much to the plot, other than to really highlight sue’s coarse and criminal nature, which was somewhat understated earlier in the book. And the very end... is that what you thought would happen?

I was so excited to read this. I was only a little ways in before I realized that I had actually read it about 10 years ago. The funny thing is that I've never been able to remember the name of it and I've been looking for it ever since!

I really enjoyed this book both times. I think I preferred the print to the audio. The twists are part of what I remembered most, particularly the one at the end of Part 1.

I listening to the audio and very much enjoyed it. The ending is somewhat what I might have imagined it to play out. (view spoiler)[Mrs. Sucksby turns out to have a little bit of a heart after all, Gentleman gets what he deserves, and Maud sacrifices her very happiness for Sue...but it all turns out all right in the end. The only question would be how do they live out their lives in that day and age. It's a little too neatly wrapped up in a bow, but it's dramatic and pulls at the heart-strings. (hide spoiler)]
