Hello, everyone! Welcome to the first 1st in the series read of 2018! This month we will be reading Truthwitch by Susan Dennard!

Summary:

In a continent on the edge of war, two witches hold its fate in their hands.

Young witches Safiya and Iseult have a habit of finding trouble. After clashing with a powerful Guildmaster and his ruthless Bloodwitch bodyguard, the friends are forced to flee their home.

Safi must avoid capture at all costs as she's a rare Truthwitch, able to discern truth from lies. Many would kill for her magic, so Safi must keep it hidden - lest she be used in the struggle between empires. And Iseult's true powers are hidden even from herself.

In a chance encounter at Court, Safi meets Prince Merik and makes him a reluctant ally. However, his help may not slow down the Bloodwitch now hot on the girls' heels. All Safi and Iseult want is their freedom, but danger lies ahead. With war coming, treaties breaking and a magical contagion sweeping the land, the friends will have to fight emperors and mercenaries alike. For some will stop at nothing to get their hands on a Truthwitch.

I hope you will be joining us for this read of the month! Tell us how you are feeling about this book!

I am definitely planning to get start on this. This sounds like an amazing book.

R.J. Abell | 682 comments I am torn. I love the author, but I'm not crazy on multiple pov. I will probably lay low and see how you all like it.

I didn't know it was multiple pov. I've never been a fan of them but I've been having them grow on me. It has officially been the new year for me for the last 11 minutes. I'm about to get some reading in on this wonderful time and then head to bed and then come back to the group in the morning with the newsletter and the likes.

However, RJ I'll let you know what I think about it.

I'll have to let you know how I feel as well, RJ!!!

I've never been one for multiple points of view but I've gotten better with it because The 100 is like that. I've totally enjoyed it.

I will be picking up this book on the 7th! Hopefully we can pick up on a discussion around then as well for this book!

Let me know what you think. I know I'm reading it at the same time as you for the most part but it'll be nice to know how you are liking it as well.

So far I am not liking it. Mostly because the whole book to me seems rushed. There are some parts where she kinda contradicts herself a little but it's enough for me to not like this book.

I'm so sad! This book just did not do it for me. I finished it but I feel kinda like it slumped me a little...

Oh no not the dreaded slump.

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

I know! Argh! I'm so unhappy about it. I'm gonna try to read a book I know I'm going to like to help me out of this reading slump.

R.J. Abell | 682 comments Thanks, I'll probably skip this for sure. I love the author though! SOMETHING STRANGE AND DEADLY is an awesome series. I love her writing, I'm not in a mood for multiple POV...it's too complex and I don't feel like overly thinking right now lol.

I don't mind multiple points of view but I just had a lot of problems with other parts of her writing.

I read this awhile ago and thought it was pretty good, I listened to the audiobook before reading the second book and enjoyed it more.

I've been reading more and more multiple points of view lately.

I was hoping to get to this but I just couldn’t. To many books too little time. It looked like it was going to be pretty good. Maybe I’ll fit it in later.
