The Reading Challenge Group discussion

This year-long challenge is based on the game of Clue. Each character from the game represents the career of the MAIN CHARACTER (male or female) of the book you read.
For example, for Miss Scarlet/career in law you might go with The Firm. For MrGreen you might choose The Name of the Rose.

I’m having trouble finding books in which the MAIN CHARACTER is involved in the field . Even in Doctor Thorne for example, Dr T is not the MAIN character. Can the CLUE character be one of the characters?

I've been compiling my reading list and agree - some of these might be hard to know ahead of time. Maybe we can make suggestions for each other before we give up on the main characters, though.

Here are a few with medical main characters that I know of:

A Duty To The Dead
The Midwife's Tale

Does anyone have suggestions for education?

I had second thoughts about giving up the main character so am actually pleased by your thoughts.

I think Doctor Thorne is perfect for that category. I read it last year and think that while the romance is important, the doctor is the key character to every storyline in some way.

When I saw that my author and friend gave it a rave review AND I could get it on Audible, I knew which book to read. Thank you, Allison.

For the medical field one, does the MC have to be a doctor or would nurse, midwife, physical therapist, etc work?

Does not have to be a doctor, just in the medical field. Same with Law, etc.

Thanks for the education suggestions Linda & Renee. I'll look into those. I wasn't thinking about governesses - that widens the field quite a bit!

I just finished The Red and The Black and am not sure where to place it, as Julian is a tutor, then a student at a seminary, then a secretary and finally dies... For right now, I am saying Religion as his goal through the whole book was to advance through the clergy. Any thoughts?
