I'm not really a gun guy so what I've included in my book I've had to look up online. Do you guys sometimes feel like you're not familiar enough with weapons (or other objects like clothing, tools, cars, etc) to competently write about them?

In the first season of my serial story The Ghost, the heroine spends most of it wielding dual machetes.
None of my characters duel wield. I like to have one hand free for lapel grabbing :p
There are usually some kind of thin katana like sword in my stories. I'm also a fan of pistols. The gun-kata from Equilibrium had a huge effect on me :p

I'm hoping to get back to this book sometime before the end of the year, but it may be early next year before it comes out.

In the book I am writing now, the sisters reluctantly carry daggers but the other "monster hunters" use guns and things; even nets and tranquilizer guns depending on the monster.

@Bryan Dirks are awesome ^^
@Kevin Certainly haha Online provides a good grounds for research but there's truly nothing better than first hand experience. And If i can't get my hands on something or experience something, i do the best next thing and interview someone that does have the experience haha

I enjoy writing about the weapons of my alien organization much more, though. The alien characters are armed with a variety of weapons and explosives that utilize electricity (either drawn from the air or from a battery) and a substance known as "crytal", which can be liquefied, hardened, or baked into a crystalline state.
They also use energy blades, which can be formed into the shape of swords and daggers. My two leading alien characters often dual wield the sword-type, which is also a favorite of mine. :D
In my novel Iconocop, Knox the Iconocop carries the company issued AR-24 along with his eagle-head cane-sword, He is partial to the cane-sword and uses far more often than his gun. His unofficial partner wields a pair of dirks she calls Venus and Serena, and which she oils and hones frequently. The gang chasing Knox (el diablos) use all manner of pistols, while the behemoth Malthus constructs his own hand-held directed-energy-weapon, or DEW.
